Internship - Backcountry River Intern
Position Summary
Intern will assist on compliance inspections along Fortymile Wild and Scenic River. They will be paired with a seasonal park ranger and a full-time employee, working with a small team to conduct compliance inspections along the Fortymile Wild and Scenic River. Take trip notes and document campsites with digital camera. Trips will be by Raft, Inflatable Canoes or Motorboat.
Weekly work schedule will vary. 5-days in office in Fairbanks, AK or up to 8-days in the backcountry.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Assist and gain knowledge of BLM Long-Term Campsite Program. Record trip notes and take photographs for database. Assist in Conducting 5-to-8-day raft trips on Fortymile Wild and Scenic River. Participate in completing a 7-day river cleanup project.

Required Qualifications
Can lift 50 lbs. Can work in remote settings with no facilities. Can work in cold climate along with mosquitos present.
This SCA Position is authorized under the Public Land Corps Authority. All participants must be between the ages of 16 and 30, inclusive, or veterans age 35 or younger. Participants must also be a citizen or national of the United States or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States. Hours served can be applied toward the Public Land Corps (PLC) hiring authority.

Living Accommodations
Housing while in Fairbanks, AK may be arranged through the internship supervisor at the BLM. They estimate needing to set aside about $1400 total from the living allowance to pay for housing. Inquire about this during interview.
Compensation
$700/week - living allowance (set aside $1400 total of this allowance to pay for housing while in Fairbanks, AK)
$1300 - one-time roundtrip travel stipend
All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
