Position Summary

Members of the Urban Forestry Team will work together to learn and practice tree care to support Chicago and North West Indiana’s urban canopy. We meet online virtually for an hour and a half to learn about the benefits of more trees in the community, tree maintenance and care. The crew will then meet on Saturday for a seven hour workday putting what they learned online to practice. The team will work on urban forestry projects including tree maintenance, watering, mulching, invasive species removal, and related projects in multiple neighborhoods of Chicago\ North West Indiana, while practicing job readiness skills.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Meeting online Tuesday and Thursday with a in person workday on Saturday. Under the direction of your Crew Leaders working together to increase the Urban Green Canopy in Chicago and North West Indiana. -Learn about the benefit of trees -planting native trees -tree maintenance -community engagement -learning job readiness skills -collecting tree data -help your crew accomplish the project -able to meet online for two days a week Tuesday and Thursday -able to meet at Big Marsh Bike Park at 9am on Saturday


Marginal Duties

Understand and follow safety protocols; Proactively communicate with leaders if you will be late or miss work.


Required Qualifications

Members must be age 15-18 at the start of the program; Must be able to attend all events; Must be a resident of Chicago; Must be interested in urban forestry or community service; Must be able to meet at Big Marsh Bike Park on Saturdays; Members must secure work permit if under 16 years of age and complete all onboarding tasks in a timely fashion.

Willingness to participate as a member of a team.

Compensation

$15/hr; Team will meet online on Tuesday and Thursdays from 5pm-6:30pm and Saturdays from 8am-2pm in person meeting at Big Marsh Bike Park on 11559 Stoney Island; All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
