Urban Agriculture Fellow (Alumni Fellow)
Position Summary
The SCA Fellow Intern will play a vital role in the National Capital Region by contributing to our Urban Agriculture Program initiatives. As an SCA Fellow, you will gain valuable hands-on experience in basic urban agriculture skills, community engagement, environmental education, grant support, and curriculum development. This fellowship provides an excellent opportunity to develop skills, network, and make a positive impact on the environment. All SCA Fellow Interns will operate as a cohort, participating in orientation, training, and ongoing check-ins together throughout the program.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Assist in planning, organizing, and executing urban agriculture educational programming and workshops; Collaborate and work alongside National Capital Region community partners in various local urban agriculture initiatives; Assist with maintaining existing community gardens, including planting, harvesting, and general upkeep as directed; Assist with identifying funding opportunities and preparing grant applications to support local urban agriculture initiatives; Conduct research on available grants, donors, and funding sources related to food access, sustainability, and community development; Facilitate outreach efforts to engage community members in urban gardening and food justice initiatives; Attend and represent the organization at local community events, workshops, and meetings
Marginal Duties
Attend and actively participate in needed orientation, meetings, training sessions, and check-ins; Maintain accurate records and documentation of completed tasks and projects using SCA output logs and uploading files into designated SharePoint folders; Ensure compliance with safety protocols and guidelines while working in the field; Perform any other duties as required by the DC Area Program Manager or designated partners site supervisors
Required Qualifications
Must have previous experience working in an SCA position (internship or team); Ability to commit to the full duration of the fellowship and attend necessary orientation, trainings, check-ins, and meetings; Access to a computer or public library with reliable internet connectivity and ability to work remotely; Physical fitness and the capability to perform fieldwork and outdoor activities; Commitment to adhering to safety procedures and environmental ethics; Passion for urban agriculture, food justice, sustainability, and community engagement; Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse communities; Willingness to learn, adapt, and tackle new challenges with enthusiasm; Ability to work both independently and as part of a team; Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and/or project management tools; Flexibility to attend occasional evening or weekend events as needed; Member must have ability to commute to in-person events and position tasks, whether by public transportation, personal vehicle, or other commuting options
Preferred Qualifications
Experience or academic background in agriculture, environmental studies, public health, community development, or a related field (internships, volunteer work, and relevant coursework are considered); Experience with gardening, farming, or food access work is preferred but not required; Familiarity with grant writing or willingness to learn

30 per week
Living Accommodations
Not applicable; Member must be a local candidate and have secured their own housing for duration of program
Compensation
$20/hour
All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.

This is a remote opportunity, a personal vehicle is not required.
