Spring 2025 George Washington Memorial Parkway Participants
Position Summary
A pair of interns will work together and independently
on a variety of trail maintenance projects located within George Washington Memorial Parkway, NPS. With the support and supervision of NPS staff, the individuals will gain exposure to federal careers, and valuable field experience in a dynamic and inclusive work environment. The participants will learn and practice hands-on skills that can be applied in their current and future endeavors.
Schedule
May 5, 2025 - October 20, 2025
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Repairing trail bridges and boardwalks
- Maintaining and repairing asphalt trail
- Installing trail drainage structures
- Installing rock and/or wood steps
- Constructing timber retaining walls
- Constructing rock and timber stairs
- Removing vegetation and trash
- Inspecting trails

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience and/or interest in landscaping work
- Experience and/or interest in carpentry work
- Experience and/or interest in trail work

40 per week
Living Accommodations
Compensation
- Living allowance - $600/week
- Travel allowance - $650
- Housing allowance - $920/mo
All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
