Urban Green- NYC State Parks Youth Crew

Position Summary

This project will focus on several different aspects of conservation stewardship within NYC. Crew members will be introduced to safe and effective tool use. Crew members will work in collaboration with other youth crew members. Crew members will engage in various service activities including trail maintenance, invasive species management, wetland restoration, and urban forestry. The goals of these projects are to improve the ecological integrity of the natural areas within NYC and ultimately aid in climate resiliency.

The crew will serve at all of the NY State Parks sites in the NYC Metro Region including: Bayswater Point State Park Clay Pit Ponds State Park Preserve Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms State Park Gantry Plaza State Park Hudson River Park Marsha P. Johnson State Park (East River State Park) Riverbank State Park (Denny Farrell Riverbank State Park) Roberto Clemente State Park Shirley Chisholm State Park.

Schedule

July 1, 2024 - August 9, 2024

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Members are to arrive on time for scheduled work days either at the work site or designated meeting location; Members will engage in hands-on physical service work.

Marginal Duties

60% Conservation Trail Stewardship Work(Training Provided) 25% Invasive Species Management(Training Provided) 15% Environmental Education(Lessons and Activities Provided)

Hours

40 per week

Living Accommodations

This is a commuting crew. Members will return home each afternoon after the work day concludes.

Compensation

Travel allowance commuting- $34.00 per week Hourly Pay- $16/hour for 30 hours per week.

All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
