Our client, a long-standing leader in industrial energy recovery and sustainable power generation, is seeking an experienced Purchasing Manager to support operations at their East Chicago, Indiana facility. This position plays a critical role in the strategic sourcing, procurement, and management of materials and services that directly impact plant performance and reliability. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in industrial, manufacturing, or utilities environments with the ability to balance cost, quality, and efficiency across multiple active projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Source, negotiate, and purchase materials, parts, and services required for power generation, maintenance, and capital improvement projects.
  • Evaluate supplier performance and ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards.
  • Coordinate with engineering, maintenance, and operations teams to forecast procurement needs and maintain optimal inventory levels for critical equipment.
  • Issue purchase orders, manage vendor documentation, and ensure timely delivery of goods and services.
  • Develop and maintain vendor relationships to ensure competitive pricing and reliable supply chains.
  • Analyze bids and proposals for accuracy, technical compliance, and total cost of ownership.
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts related to material and service expenditures.
  • Maintain purchasing records, contracts, and data in alignment with company policies and audit requirements.
  • Support sustainability and cost-reduction initiatives by identifying opportunities to utilize recycled, refurbished, or energy-efficient materials where possible.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain within an industrial, manufacturing, utilities, or energy environment.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and process-related equipment (e.g., pumps, compressors, turbines, boilers, or similar).
  • Proven track record of vendor negotiation, cost analysis, and contract management.
  • Proficient in ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office Suite; SAP or similar platform experience preferred.
