Summary/Objective
The Environmental Manager is responsible for overseeing the organization's sustainability and environmental performance by designing, implementing, and maintaining effective environmental programs, strategies, policies, and standards to minimize contamination, enhance environmental responsibility, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and internal regulations. This role involves managing daily team activities, promoting environmental awareness, and providing training to maintain the company’s environmental management system. The Environmental Manager ensures operational compliance in areas such as air quality, solid waste, clean water, hazardous materials, and pollution control, while conducting regular audits to monitor emissions, contaminations, and damages. The role includes analyzing business practices, recommending improvements to environmental strategies, and investigating incidents to develop safety-focused action plans.
Essential Functions
- Oversees the sustainability and environmental performance of an organization.
- Designs, develops, implements, and maintains effective environmental programs, strategies, policies, and standards that reduce contaminations, increase environmental friendliness, and meet or exceed required guidelines.
- Oversees daily activities of team members, promotes environmental awareness among company employees, and trains and assists team members to maintain a company's environmental management system.
- Assures that the company's operations are compliant with internal and external company, Federal, and State environmental regulations in areas such as ergonomics, air quality, solid waste, clean water, hazardous materials handling processes, and pollution.
- Analyzes and audits business practices, and trains employees on environmental programs and policies.
- Performs regular environmental audits to monitor emissions, contaminations, and damages.
- Reviews and recommends improvements to existing environmental strategies.
- Investigates environmental incidents, including accidents, spills, or other hazards, and works with departments to develop action plans to improve safety.
- Oversees pollution control programs and develops waste treatment and recycling procedures.
- Follows and enforces environmental policies and procedures.
- Performs environmental research and prepares and submits research reports to management.
- Manages recycling and pollution-reduction programs, keeps up to date with environmental trends and legislations, and negotiates environmental-related contracts.
- Develops budget for environmental operations and develops cost reduction initiatives while still maintaining quality.

- In-depth understanding of federal, state, and local environmental laws, regulations, and guidelines.
- Strong leadership skills to oversee daily team activities, promote environmental awareness
- Proficiency in conducting environmental audits.
- Knowledge of current environmental trends, legislation, and best practices to drive recycling, pollution reduction, and waste treatment programs.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in data handling.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities
Work Environment
Most work is performed in an office environment; however shop floor presence for observation and support will be necessary which may require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses and mandatory head protection.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. The employee must also be able to climb a ladder.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Travel
Anticipated travel is minimal, approximately 10%. Occasional local day travel may be required.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in EHS role.
- Proficiency in Widows Office tools (e.g., Excel, Word, Power Point)
- Familiarity with ISO 14001
- Strong analytical skills with experience in root cause analysis or process improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma).
