Your department:
The Cross Functional Optimisation (MEX) unit drives optimisation of Energy Management processes across business units and geographies, supporting Statkraft’s commercial strategy. MEX creates value by improving core processes and ensuring Energy Management evolves in line with market and digital developments. MEX delivers business Services such as commercial analysis, citizen development, and co-development, supporting optimisation and automated flexibility trading, intermittent production forecasting, and market access for 3rd party customers. MEX also holds business capability ownership for digital solutions in Energy Management, leading daily collaboration between M and IT and ensuring digitalisation efforts align with strategic objectives and value creation.
The Renewables Forecasting Team (MEXF) owns the renewables production forecasting process end-to-end for Wind and Solar portfolios in all European markets. This includes input/output data management, forecast vendor management and creation of meta-forecasts. The team owns the quality and budget so that the highest commercial benefit is realised.
The Senior Commercial Analyst - Renewables Forecasting will have responsibilities including but not limited to the following:
- Analyse, monitor and benchmark the performance of renewables forecasts from external providers and create combined forecasts
- Identify, evaluate and implement statistical forecast improvements
- Lead the effort for using AI/ML tools for developing new models
- Create and improve renewables forecasts for our portfolios across Europe based on numerical weather models
- Follow academic publications and market trends and work on their implementation in the context of renewables forecasting
- Develop statistical arbitrage strategies based on renewable forecast data
- Support the operational forecasting duty by identifying and solving operationally critical incidents
- Support in preparing ad-hoc commercial analyses for internal and external stakeholders
- Regularly update stakeholders on recent developments and performance evaluations
Your profile:
- Excellent university degree in mathematics, physics, meteorology, engineering or business with strong quantitative focus
- Several years of experience in renewables power forecasting for short-term power markets
- Experience with numerical weather models is an advantage
- Strong analytical and investigative skills
- Significant modelling and programming experience preferably in Python
- Ability to solve analytical problems in limited time when necessary
- Strong commercial mind set
- Proactive and independent way of working
- Excellent communication in English is a must
