Your Opportunity

Our Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Lead is one of several discipline specific Team Leads within Stantec’s Transportation Leadership Team in British Columbia. This is an exciting opportunity to bring forward new ideas, grow our team and build on our Stantec goals of excellence, innovation, and people.

You will be empowered to grow and lead a team of technical experts and will ultimately be responsible for the performance and success of our Transit & Rail Team.

This opportunity is ideal for a motivated individual who is a self-starter, passionate about working with people and has a thorough understanding of the transit and rail sectors.

Your Key Responsibilities

Project & Technical Leadership

  • Leading BRT project delivery from early planning and concept development through preliminary and detailed design and into implementation support, ensuring projects are technically sound, deliverable, and aligned with client objectives.
  • Acting as a senior technical advisor to the owner, supporting agencies and municipalities with decision-making related to corridor design, phasing, constructability, operations, and risk management.
  • Providing technical leadership and oversight for multidisciplinary teams, including roadway design, transit systems, stations, signals, utilities, and urban design, ensuring integrated and coordinated solutions.
  • Establishing and applying BRT best practices and design standards to elevate the quality and consistency of the team’s work.
  • Managing client relationships and stakeholder interfaces, including municipalities, utilities, regulators, and the public, and representing Stantec in technical workshops, briefings, and governance forums.

Team Leadership & Practice Growth

  • Supporting business development and market growth, including shaping pursuit strategies, contributing to proposals, and positioning Stantec as a trusted advisor for BRT and rapid transit programs.
  • Mentoring and developing staff, strengthening internal capability in BRT planning and design and building long-term depth within the Rail and Transit Team.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Direct experience supporting transit owners or agencies (e.g., acting as owner’s engineer, technical advisor, or lead consultant) on rapid bus or high-capacity bus corridors.
  • Proven leadership of multidisciplinary teams (roadway, transit systems, stations, signals, utilities, urban design) on corridor-scale projects.
  • Experience working in urban, multi-jurisdictional environments, coordinating with municipalities, utilities, and regulatory bodies.
  • Strong client-facing background, including stakeholder engagement, technical workshops, and executive-level briefings.
  • Familiarity with North American BRT best practices, design standards, and implementation challenges, including constructability, phasing, and operational considerations.
  • Ability to manage technical risk, scope, schedule, and budget on complex transit assignments.

Education and Experience

  • 15+ years of experience delivering complex transit or BRT projects, with demonstrated involvement across planning, preliminary design, detailed design, and implementation support.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Urban Planning, or a related discipline (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Licensed Professional Engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists BC.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay Range

  • Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$136,300.00 - $204,500.00 Annually

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
