Your Opportunity
Our Salt Lake City office is seeking a junior‑level Building Science Consultant to join our Utah team. This role is ideal for a recent graduate or early‑career professional who is eager to develop their technical skills in building science and building enclosure consulting.
We are a multidisciplinary group of engineers and architects specializing in building enclosure design, investigation, and rehabilitation for both new and existing buildings. Junior staff work closely with senior consultants and project managers and receive hands‑on training, mentoring, and structured professional development.
For new construction projects, we support the design and construction of durable, sustainable, and high‑performance building envelopes. For existing buildings, we assist with investigating enclosure issues and designing repair strategies.
We value technical growth, curiosity, collaboration, work‑life balance, and an environment that supports learning and mentorship. This is a full‑time, entry‑level to early‑career position that offers exposure to a wide range of building science services.
Our Building Envelope Field Testing Technicians perform a variety of tests on both new construction and existing buildings. We offer training and development to allow you to succeed and help you build a long-term career. Prior experience in glazing, window installation, roof investigations, or any type of building testing is preferred. Opportunities to travel regionally to building sites while working with a great team of professionals. Flexible and hybrid work schedules are available.
Key Responsibilities
Stantec offers a hybrid home/office work environment, and expects team members in one of our Portland office at least 2-3 days a week or more for all-staff meetings, project-related team work sessions, client meetings, and employee engagement functions etc.

Key Responsibilities
- Performs field performance testing activities on building construction sites
- Performs field observations, writes technical reports and review reports with construction teams
- Oversees the office field equipment management, calibration, training and maintenance
- Defines scope of testing services to be provided and establish the basic performance criteria for the assignment
- Reads, discusses and communicates testing standards, project drawings and specifications
- Investigates, advises, and problem solves testing failures, design and/or construction problems
- Recommends practical application of building science theories and data derived from field testing
- Periodic out of state travel may be required
- Minimum 2 years of experience in construction or field testing/installation preferred.
- Prior experience working within the building envelope/window field is an asset preferred.
- Knowledge of standardized testing procedures for water testing and air leakage testing is an asset preferred.
- Professional certifications in direct relevant fields and disciplines an asset preferred.
- Basic computer skills with Bluebeam, MS Word and Excel preferred.
- Good communication and writing skills in English preferred.
- Organized and can prioritize tasks on multiple projects preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record preferred.
- 2 years of relevant experience, including internships or co‑op experience.
- Coursework or internship exposure to building science or building enclosure concepts preferred.
- Revit experience or exposure is an asset.
