Your Opportunity
Our Building Specialty Services group is seeking an Intermediate Building Science Specialist to join our Alberta team. This role offers the opportunity to contribute technical expertise while developing project management and leadership skills within the building science industry.
You will work closely with senior technical leaders, supporting building envelope design, third-party reviews, commissioning services, forensic investigations, and construction support for both rehabilitation and new construction projects.

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.

Your Key Responsibilities
- Support building envelope design and consulting services for new and existing buildings
- Conduct third-party design reviews for building envelope systems
- Review design documents, shop drawings, and trade submittals for compliance with best practices related to: - Water intrusion
- Air leakage
- Vapor diffusion
- Thermal performance
- Differential movement
- Participate in field reviews of new construction and rehabilitation projects
- Prepare detailed site visit reports and track deficiencies through to resolution
- Assist with field testing of building envelope systems (water infiltration and air leakage testing) and prepare technical reports
- Support forensic investigations of building envelope failures
- Collaborate with architects, contractors, consultants, and sub-trades
- Contribute to proposal preparation and support business development initiatives
- Assist in mentoring junior staff and contribute to knowledge sharing within the team
- Manage assigned project tasks and budgets under the guidance of a Project Manager
- Strong understanding of building envelope systems including: - Flashing and waterproofing
- Roofing and cladding
- Rain screen systems
- Air barriers and thermal performance
- Working knowledge of energy codes and building science principles
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Familiarity with Bluebeam, CAD, and/or Revit
- Ability to manage multiple projects with budgets typically under $200,000
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work both independently and within a collaborative team environment
- Comfortable working on active construction sites
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Eligible for or registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Alberta
- 5–8 years of experience in assessing, detailing, testing, and/or constructing building envelope systems
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Architecture, or Applied Science with a focus on Building Science
