Overview

The Precourt Institute for Energy, within the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability, seeks an exceptional leader to serve as the Director of Advancing Energy Ecopreneurship. This role leads energy ecopreneurship initiatives, builds partnerships across Stanfords energy ecosystem, supports student entrepreneurs, and drives strategic fundraising and program development related to energy entrepreneurship.

This role is based on Stanfords main campus with consideration given to a hybrid work schedule (partially onsite and offsite) subject to operational need. Responsibilities

  • Lead strategic vision and develop a strong program and co-curricular student activities to advance energy entrepreneurship at Stanford.
  • Lead and apply thought leadership on energy entrepreneurship, communicating insights to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Establish and manage partnerships with Stanford faculty and programs (e.g., Precourt Institute for Energy, Doerr School of Sustainability Accelerator, d.school, TomKat Center for Sustainable Energy) and external entities to advance energy entrepreneurship.
  • Represent energy ecopreneurship to external partners and contribute to strategic fundraising opportunities for energy ecopreneurship and the broader Precourt education pillar.
  • Build and maintain connections with the Stanford Venture Studio Ecopreneur Circle, Ecopreneurship Eco-Sprint, student clubs, and other ecosystems to expand on-ramps for energy entrepreneurs.
  • Advise the Precourt Institute Director on fundraising and program sustainability; track metrics and outcomes for innovation exploration and technology commercialization.
  • Teach and co-teach courses related to entrepreneurship in energy transitions; develop curriculum and co-curricular learning opportunities; serve as an institutional expert for students evaluating technology ventures.
  • Support graduate student engagement in commercialization pathways for sustainability-focused faculty innovations.
  • Develop tracking and metric analysis models for innovation investigations and commercialization realizations.
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to students, connect them to resources, and help chart career paths aligned with energy entrepreneurship.
  • Foster external partnerships and expand the energy ecosystem within Stanford and with external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with the Ecopreneurship network to ensure alignment with Stanford Ecopreneurship and the Doerr School of Sustainability Accelerator.

Minimum Requirements

Education & Experience:

Advanced degree and five years of relevant experience in the area of specialization, or a combination of relevant education, training, and experience. Experience managing budgets and developing financial plans; experience developing program partnerships and funding sources.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to develop program partnerships and funding sources.
  • Advanced oral, written, and analytical skills with fluency in the area of specialization.
  • Ability to oversee and direct staff and manage budgets and financial plans.

Certifications and Licenses:

  • For teaching roles, an advanced degree or certification may be required for some programs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Enthusiasm for working with students and building strong, lasting connections; knowledge of Stanford as a student is preferred but not required.
  • Creativity, passion, and commitment to creating impactful programs for energy-focused students and helping them navigate entrepreneurship.
  • Ability to build and nurture relationships across Stanfords energy ecosystem and with external partners.
  • Experience mentoring students, connecting them to resources, and helping chart paths aligned with their interests.

Compensation and Benefits
