The role

The Distribution Control Room North is responsible for the project delivery, design, installation, testing and commissioning of operational industrial control systems and operational communications that SSEN use to operate our primary assets across multiple locations throughout the Scottish Hydro Electric Power Distribution (SHEPD) licensed area.

As the Project Manager, you will be responsible for managing and delivering a range of complex operational communications, and OT field systems projects. You will lead project teams, develop project plans, and ensure that projects are delivered on time, within budget and to the highest standards of quality throughout the ED2 price control period.

You will

  • Lead project teams to deliver the ED2 project portfolio in order to meet strategic needs and operational efficiency.
  • Develop project plans, timelines, and budgets in conjunction with senior stakeholders ensuring that projects are delivered to the highest standards of quality and safety.
  • Monitor and control project progress, taking corrective action where necessary to keep projects on track.
  • Manage project budgets, including tracking costs and managing financial risks.
  • Manage stakeholder relationships, including suppliers, and regulatory bodies.
  • Identify and manage project risks, including developing and implementing risk mitigation strategies.

You have

  • A degree level (or equivalent experience) in Electrical and Electronics Engineering or another related discipline.
  • Previous industry experience and an understanding of governance applied to safety-critical engineering processes, risk assessment and mitigation processes.
  • Demonstratable experience in project management, preferably with Project Management qualifications such as APM PMQ or equivalent.
  • Experience leading and managing complex projects with a proven track record of success and excellent planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels along with strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire project teams.
  • Familiarity with the UK electrical utilities sector and regulatory environment with a knowledge of Protection, Real Time Systems and Operational Technology.

The role

We’re looking for an experienced Data Scientist to join our Data and Analytics team at SSE Airtricity. This is a hands-on technical role, focused on developing data pipelines to support data science work, as well as building and deploying machine learning solutions and advanced analytics within our cloud platform (Databricks). You’ll apply data wrangling and modelling techniques to solve real-world problems across customer, commercial, financial, sales, and operational areas, ensuring insights and predictions directly support business outcomes.

You will

  • Partner with product owners and stakeholders to scope opportunities where data science can drive value.
  • Design, develop, validate, and deploy machine learning and statistical models in Python within Databricks.
  • Build reproducible data science workflows, including data preparation, feature engineering, model training, and monitoring.
  • Work closely with data professionals to ensure pipelines and model outputs are robust, automated, and production-ready, applying best practices in coding, ML Ops, version control, and data governance.
  • Keep up to date with emerging modelling techniques and apply them where appropriate.

You have

  • A Master’s degree (or higher) in a quantitative field (Computer Science, Applied Science, Engineering, Mathematics etc) or equivalent.
  • Extensive, demonstrable experience in a data science or applied analytics role, post qualification.
  • Proven hands-on expertise with Python for statistical analysis, machine learning, and data manipulation.
  • Solid working knowledge of SQL and the ability to design, implement, and productionise models.
  • Experience working in cloud-based analytics platforms, ideally Databricks, with a high attention to detail and rigorous approach to data quality and model validation.
