Compensation: $140,000 - $160,000 annually (negotiable based on experience)
Spheros Environmental is seeking a Team Lead to provide technical leadership, people management, and strategic direction for our sustainability, GHG reporting, and climate consulting practice. This role is ideal for a seasoned climate professional ready to lead a team of practitioners while continuing to guide complex, high-impact client projects.
The Team Lead will oversee a portfolio of greenhouse gas accounting, sustainability, and climate disclosure projects across multiple sectors, while mentoring staff, shaping service offerings, and supporting business growth. Key Responsibilities
Technical & Project Leadership
- Provide technical and strategic leadership for complex GHG and climate-related projects, ensuring scientific rigor, regulatory compliance, and defensible deliverables.
- Oversee GHG accounting and reporting projects, including Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emissions assessments aligned with regulatory and voluntary standards.
- Guide development and implementation of climate disclosure, sustainability reporting, and ESG strategies (e.g., CDP, TCFD, SEC climate rules).
- Serve as a subject matter expert on state and federal climate regulations, including state GHG reporting requirements, and other regional programs.
- Review and advise on Lifecycle Analyses (LCA), carbon emission accounting, and environmental impact assessments.
- Support clients with compliance and strategy related to carbon GHG and other air emissions.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of project managers and technical staff, fostering professional growth and technical excellence.
- Assign resources, balance workloads, and support career development through coaching and performance feedback.
- Promote consistent methodologies, quality control standards, and best practices across the GHG and climate services team.
- Contribute to recruiting, onboarding, and training of new team members.
- Support business development efforts, including proposal strategy, scope development, pricing, and technical review.
- Maintain and grow client relationships, serving as a trusted advisor and senior point of contact.
- Identify emerging regulatory, market, and policy trends to help evolve service offerings and expand the climate and GHG practice.
- Collaborate with leaders across Spheros Environmental practice areas to deliver integrated, multidisciplinary solutions.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Atmospheric Science, Sustainability, or a related field.
- 15+ years of professional experience in air quality, GHG reporting, climate policy, or sustainability consulting.
- Demonstrated expertise in GHG Protocol, ISO 14064, GHG accounting methodologies, and Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions.
- Strong experience with GHG reporting and climate regulations in California, Colorado, and other U.S. jurisdictions.
- In-depth familiarity with California’s Cap-and-Trade (Cap-and-Invest) Program, EPA GHG Reporting Program, and corporate sustainability frameworks.
- Proven ability to lead teams, manage senior-level client engagements, and oversee multiple complex projects simultaneously.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience developing carbon reduction strategies, climate action plans, net-zero or decarbonization roadmaps.
- Proficiency with GHG calculation tools, emissions databases, and reporting platforms.
- Professional certifications such as PMP, ENV SP, or relevant licensure.
- Knowledge of California climate legislation including SB 253, SB 261, SB 219, and SB 1137.
- Experience contributing to practice management, service line growth, and thought leadership.
