Senior Project Manager - Greenhouse Gas

Location: Flexible (Hybrid or 100% Remote, Approved States)

Compensation: $130,000 - $160,000 annually (negotiable based on experience)

Sonoma Technology, a Spheros Environmental company, is seeking a Senior Project Manager with deep expertise in air quality, greenhouse gas (GHG) reporting, and climate-related regulatory compliance to join our growing team. This role will lead projects focused on GHG accounting, sustainability, and climate disclosure initiatives for clients across diverse sectors. The ideal candidate will bring both technical and strategic insight into managing projects that advance our clients’ climate and ESG goals while maintaining regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage complex GHG and climate-related projects from initiation through delivery, ensuring technical excellence and regulatory compliance.
  • Oversee GHG reporting and accounting projects, including Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emissions assessments in accordance with the applicable regulations and voluntary standards.
  • Develop, review, and implement strategies for climate disclosure, sustainability reporting, and ESG frameworks (e.g., CDP, TCFD, SEC climate rules).
  • Provide expert guidance on state and federal regulatory requirements, including California’s Cap-and-Trade/Cap-and-Invest Program, Colorado GHG Reporting, and other regional climate regulations.
  • Conduct Lifecycle Analyses (LCA) for carbon and environmental impact assessments.
  • Support clients with regulatory compliance strategies related to carbon dioxide, methane, and other air pollutant emissions.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to deliver technically sound and defensible project deliverables.
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to business development efforts, including proposal writing and client relationship management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Atmospheric Science, Sustainability, or related field.
  • 8+ years of professional experience in air quality, GHG reporting, or climate/sustainability consulting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of GHG Protocol, GHG accounting methodologies, ISO 14064, and Scope 1, 2, and3 emissions calculations.
  • Experience with GHG reporting and climate regulations in California, Colorado, and other U.S. jurisdictions.
  • Familiarity with California’s Cap-and-Trade (Cap-and-Invest) program, EPA GHG Reporting Program, and relevant state or corporate sustainability frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of ESG disclosure frameworks, climate policy, and sustainability strategy.
  • Excellent project management, communication, and client engagement skills.
  • Ability to lead cross-disciplinary teams and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience developing or implementing carbon reduction strategies, climate action plans, or net-zero roadmaps.
  • Proficiency with GHG calculation tools, emissions databases, and reporting systems.
  • Professional certification (e.g., PMP, ENV SP, applicable state licensure) is a plus.
  • Experience and understanding of California SB 1137, SB 253, SB 261, and SB 219.
