Become an Energy Markets Data Scientist at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. Responsibilities

  • Executes analytical support for projects and initiatives that help shape SCE's strategy, as well as long-term resource and climate adaptation plans.
  • Facilitates horizon planning capabilities through scenario development in the face of uncertainty driven by exogenous market factors, like climate change and emerging technologies.
  • Executes the use of analytical models and grid planning simulation tools, forecasting the impacts of various resource portfolio scenarios on system pricing, GHG emissions, and other system dimensions.
  • Conducts research on new technologies, focusing on their cost-effectiveness and potential for supply and demand-side energy resources.
  • Develops analytical models and methods for a variety of applications, including evaluating energy policies, regulations, climate change impacts, and new business models.
  • Drives the analysis of market trends in the energy and ancillary services markets.
  • Manages contract requirements, reviews payments, manages disputes and makes strategic recommendations to maximize benefits to customers.
  • Deploys and improves statistical and econometric models to forecast electricity demand and energy commodity prices to support position management and hedging.
  • A material job duty of all positions within the Company is ensuring the protection of all its physical, financial and cybersecurity assets, and properly accessing and managing private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other types of highly sensitive information and data with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Three or more years of experience in financial planning, modeling and/or forecasting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree or prior work experience in Data Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
  • Experience working with large, complex datasets using Python or similar tools, and translating results into clear insights for non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Experience deploying, scaling, or operationalizing models (e.g., reusable code, automated pipelines, or decision‑support tools).
  • Experience with cloud‑based analytics environments or modern data platforms.
  • Exposure to energy markets, trading, or power systems.

Additional Information

  • This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to work and reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage. The work mode can be changed based on business needs.
