This role involves developing climate related disclosures for large, complex organisations aligned with key disclosure frameworks (AASB S2, ISSB, TCFD) and supporting physical and transition climate risk assessments. The Managing Consultant serves as a technical lead on projects, manages client relationships, and supports business development initiatives within South Pole’s Advisory team in the Asia Pacific region. This position requires a blend of technical expertise, project execution, compliance reporting and client engagement, ensuring that businesses understand the financial and operational risks associated with climate change while meeting evolving compliance reporting requirements.

Main tasks & responsibilities:
Project Delivery:
- Drive the delivery of mandatory sustainability reporting against relevant frameworks such as the AASB S2, IFRS S2, TCFD (at a minimum), overseeing process design, disclosure development (including underlying GHG accounting and climate risk assessment elements) and audit support for reporting.
- Manage internal teams of consultants, overseeing delegation, technical review, and finalization of client deliverables to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Oversee the full lifecycle of climate risk assessments, from risk screening and qualitative scenario analysis to quantitative financial impact modeling, climate resilience planning, and integration into corporate risk management frameworks.
- Lead the engagement with corporate clients (both functional and executive teams) for sourcing and incorporating key information in drafting climate related disclosures.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on TCFD, IFRS, and Australian Sustainability Reporting Standards (ASRS) at a minimum, with future requirements potentially also incorporating other similar sustainability reporting obligations in the region (e.g. Philippines, Singapore)
- Serve as primary client contact, ensuring clear communication and strong stakeholder engagement.
- Provide bespoke guidance on climate-related financial reporting across various sectors, ensuring full alignment with rapidly shifting global standards.
- Provide strategic recommendations on climate adaptation, resilience planning, and business continuity strategies.
- Mentor and develop junior talent, while contributing to the firm’s growth through impactful proposal development and internal coaching.
- Collaborate with sustainability, risk, and finance teams within client organizations to support climate risk integration into corporate decision-making.
- Present technical insights to C-suite executives and senior risk leaders in an accessible, actionable format.
- Identify opportunities for expanding services within existing client accounts and in new target markets, supporting the development of new climate risk and disclosure offerings.
- Work alongside Key Account Managers and senior leadership to contribute to proposals, RFPs, and client pitches.
- Support thought leadership efforts, including whitepapers, conference participation, and webinar content on physical climate risk topics.
Essential -
- 5+ years of relevant experience in climate advisory, climate risk, and sustainability consulting, including leading client engagements and teams of consultants.
- Extensive experience developing climate-related disclosures from origination to publication under frameworks such as TCFD, IFRS S2, and AASB S2, including navigating formal auditing and assurance procedures.
- Deep expertise in climate risk methodologies—including hazard, exposure, and vulnerability assessments—to quantify financial and operational impacts on assets, operations, and supply chains
- Ability to translate complex climate model outputs, extreme weather projections, and scenario analyses into decision-useful insights for businesses and investors.
- Skilled at converting complex regulatory requirements into clear, actionable roadmaps that enable corporate clients to achieve compliance efficiently
- Excellent project management skills, from both a technical and administrative standpoint, and proven ability to guide project teams in a multi-stakeholder and multi-geographies context.
- Excellent oral and written English skills, with a track record of producing high-quality proposals and deliverables, managing senior stakeholders, and fostering strong interpersonal relationships.
- Commitment to continuous professional development and a genuine curiosity for emerging trends in climate and ESG reporting.
- Bachelor’s degree required in Environmental Science, Climate Science, Earth Sciences, or a related field (Master’s desirable).
- Relevant certifications (e.g., FRM, GARP, CA, CPA, CFA-Climate Risk, etc) are a plus.
- Proficiency in data visualization (Tableau, Power BI) and climate impact analytics to effectively communicate physical and transition risk findings.
- Climate risk scenario analysis, applying IPCC climate projections (CMIP6), industry-standard physical risk models, and hazard datasets to assess business and financial risk impacts.
- Experience in nature, biodiversity, and water risk assessments is beneficial, including evaluating ecosystem dependencies, biodiversity loss, drought and flood vulnerability, water availability risks, and nature-related financial risks using frameworks such as TNFD (Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures).
