Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Business Development Manager role based in Johannesburg. The Business Development Manager will identify and pursue new commercial opportunities for solar and battery ESS projects, including financed, PPA, and CAPEX models. Day-to-day tasks include prospecting and qualifying leads, preparing proposals and presentations, and managing the sales pipeline from initial contact to contract closure. The role involves building and maintaining relationships with clients, partners, and stakeholders, while collaborating closely with engineering and project teams to ensure solutions align with customer requirements. The Business Development Manager will also conduct market research, track industry trends, and report on performance metrics to support strategic growth.
Qualifications
- Strong business development and sales skills, including lead generation, opportunity qualification, and deal negotiation.
- Experience in client relationship management, stakeholder engagement, and presenting technical solutions to non-technical audiences.
- Knowledge of solar PV and battery ESS technologies, project financing models (financed, PPA, CAPEX), and the renewable energy market.
- Ability to develop persuasive proposals, commercial offers, and supporting documentation, with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, including basic financial analysis and understanding of project ROI.
- Prior experience in the energy, engineering, or infrastructure sector in a sales or business development capacity is highly beneficial.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Energy Management, or a related field is preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
- Proficiency in standard office and CRM software, and the ability to maintain organized records and reports.
- Self-motivated, goal-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with clear performance targets.
