Solar Utility Interconnection Coordinator
Key Responsibilities Include but are not limited to:
- Interconnection & Compliance
- Own the end-to-end utility interconnection process for solar + battery projects.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date knowledge of interconnection standards and technical requirements for each utility territory.
- Ensure all applications are submitted, tracked, and completed in a timely manner to avoid project delays and ensure customer satisfaction.
- Utility & Regulatory Relationship Management
- Serve as the primary liaison between the company and utility providers across all service areas.
- Build and maintain strong, professional relationships with utility contacts, inspectors, and relevant stakeholders.
- Represent the company in meetings, working groups, and discussions related to utility rules, grid programs, and regulatory changes.
- Rebate and Incentive Program Administration
- Research, track participation in local, state, and utility-level solar and battery incentive programs.
- Ensure compliance with program requirements and maximize rebate and incentive opportunities for customers and the business.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with the Sales, Operations, Engineering, and Customer Experience teams to align project timelines with utility requirements.
- Provide internal guidance on utility policies and regulatory changes that may impact project design, pricing, or execution.
- Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Develop and maintain dashboards or reporting tools to monitor utility application status and performance metrics.
- Identify process gaps and implement best practices to reduce cycle times and increase approval rates.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Energy, Public Policy, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3+ years of experience in utility coordination, solar interconnection, or regulatory affairs within the clean energy industry.
- Strong knowledge of utility interconnection processes, particularly for solar PV and battery storage systems.
- Experience working with rebate/incentive programs (e.g., NEM, SGIP, etc.).
- Proven ability to manage complex, multi-territory utility processes and applications.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in CRM, project management tools, and utility interconnection portals.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with both residential and commercial solar + storage projects.
- Existing utility or regulatory relationships in relevant service territories.
- Knowledge of grid programs, demand response, and DER integration policies.
