Location: Remote (Preference for candidates located in the Mid-West)


About the Role

The role is based with an early-stage renewable energy developer focused on building a leading onshore wind platform across the Midwest. Founded by industry veterans with experience at major renewable energy companies, the team is executing a strategy centered on proven wind technology and high-quality project development. We are looking for an entrepreneurial Project Developer who wants to help build projects from the ground up and play a meaningful role in shaping the future growth of the company.


Position Overview

The Project Developer will be responsible for advancing utility-scale renewable energy projects throughout the development lifecycle, with primary responsibility for identifying opportunities, securing site control, managing stakeholders, coordinating permitting activities, and driving projects toward interconnection and construction readiness.


This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and wants direct ownership over project success.


Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and evaluate new utility-scale renewable energy project opportunities
  • Perform site screening and feasibility assessments using GIS and development tools
  • Develop project strategies to advance opportunities from greenfield development through advanced stages
  • Evaluate land, environmental, transmission, and permitting constraints
  • Lead landowner outreach and relationship-building efforts
  • Negotiate leases, easements, and site control agreements
  • Coordinate with brokers, land agents, title providers, and legal counsel
  • Maintain project records and site-control documentation
  • Manage local, county, state, and federal permitting activities
  • Coordinate environmental studies, surveys, and consultant workstreams
  • Participate in public meetings, stakeholder engagement efforts, and community outreach
  • Develop relationships with local officials, landowners, agencies, and key project stakeholders
  • Support interconnection application preparation and submission
  • Coordinate with utilities, consultants, and engineering teams
  • Assist with transmission and interconnection strategy evaluation
  • Review development risks and recommend mitigation strategies
  • Manage project schedules, budgets, and development milestones
  • Track critical path activities and project deliverables
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams including engineering, environmental, legal, commercial, and finance groups
  • Support project valuation, investment decisions, and development reporting


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Geography, Planning, Business, Renewable Energy, or a related field
  • 2-5 years of renewable energy project development experience
  • Experience supporting utility-scale renewable energy projects
  • Demonstrated experience with: Site screening and project siting; Land acquisition and site control; Permitting and entitlement processes; Stakeholder engagement; and Project management
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment


Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct onshore wind development experience
  • Experience with projects in MISO, PJM, or SPP markets
  • GIS proficiency (ArcGIS, QGIS, Google Earth, or similar platforms)
  • Experience advancing projects through interconnection and late-stage development
  • Experience negotiating land agreements and managing permitting processes
  • Previous experience in a startup or entrepreneurial development environment
