Purpose of the position


  • The Communications Intern will support campaigns and initiatives impacting SMA corporate affairs and market segments. The Communications Intern will support brand building and public awareness by assisting the Communications Manager with the creation and execution of activities including, but not limited to blog writing, media activities, DEI planning, government relations support, sustainability projects, corporate communications work and other tasks as needed.


Primary duties / responsibilities


  • Assists with writing responsibilities for marketing and communications projects.


  • Supports the Communications Manager and coordinating with the entire marketing team to establish priorities and execute deliverables.


  • Delivers assigned projects on-time.


  • Ensures deliverables meet quality standards.


  • Writes copy directed at a wide variety of audiences.


  • Participates in creative brainstorm sessions for BU initiatives including new product launches, social media updates, advertising campaigns and marketing initiatives, as needed.


  • Other duties as required or assigned.


Required training (type / duration / field / additional training)


  • A bachelor's degree (completed or in-progress) in marketing, communications or a related field is required.


Required relevant professional experience (type / duration)


  • 0-3 years of marketing or communications experience.


Other specialized skills


  • Basic knowledge of communications concepts and processes.
  • Excellent grammar, writing, editing and communication skills are required.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy are required.
  • Basic skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel) required.
  • Proficiency in the English language, both written and verbal, is required.
  • Proficiency with Associated Press Style.
  • Ability to work individually and as a team.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize projects and meet all requisite deadlines.

The compensation range for this position is $20/hr - $22/hr.
