Background 


SLYCAN Trust is looking for a motivated intern to support its programmatic and research work across multiple thematic areas. The intern will engage in programme support, research, knowledge management, and coordination activities under the guidance of the SLYCAN Trust team, contributing to work spanning the oceans, security, and climate finance, resilience and risk management, EU law and policy, just transition, climate communications, and entrepreneurship work programmes.


SLYCAN Trust is an internationally recognised non-profit think tank working on climate change, sustainable development, just transition, biodiversity and ecosystem conservation, and social justice, including inclusion. Our work spans the national, regional, and global levels, from policy analysis and evidence-based research to on-the-ground implementation.


Timeframe


The full-time internship is scheduled for three months starting from mid-May/early June 2026 (40 hours/week). 


Duty station and places of travel


The assignment is based in Bonn, Germany.


Remuneration


The intern will receive an honorarium of EUR 1,000 per month. 


Scope of Work


Depending on the intern's background and the evolving needs of the team, tasks may include:


  • Conducting desk research, literature reviews, and policy analysis across one or more of the thematic work programmes;
  • Supporting the development of research outputs, briefings, reports, and knowledge products;
  • Contributing to work on resilience, risk management, and climate vulnerability assessments;
  • Monitoring and analysing EU legislation, policy developments, and regulatory frameworks relevant to SLYCAN Trust's work;
  • Supporting just transition research, including social equity dimensions of climate and environmental policy;
  • Assisting with climate communications tasks, including drafting content, summaries, and outreach materials;
  • Contributing to entrepreneurship-related initiatives, including green economy, sustainable finance, and innovation workstreams;
  • Supporting coordination, event preparation, and stakeholder engagement activities.


Requirements 


  • Valid permit to perform an internship for three months in Germany.
  • Interest in climate change, sustainable development, environmental policy, or related fields;
  • Bachelor's (completed) or Master's degree (completed or ongoing) in International Relations, Environmental Law and Policy, Political Science, Economics, Sustainable Development, or another relevant discipline;
  • Spoken and written fluency in English (additional languages are an asset);
  • Excellent analytical, synthesis, and drafting skills, as well as good planning and organisational abilities;
  • Strong writing, presentation skills, and creativity;
  • Ability to work independently with a global time based across time zones;
  • Previous experience or coursework in any of the thematic areas listed above, EU policy, climate finance, or the non-profit sector is an asset.
