About the Role
We are seeking an HVAC Installation Advisor who acts as a key internal and external subject matter expert helping us achieve equitable clean energy solutions. This person will play a key role in our work to continue improving the energy and emissions performance of residential HVAC, with a focus on expanding heat pump adoption through training and technical resource development.
Our ideal HVAC Installation Advisor has worked in a technical installation capacity and has transitioned to a sales, management, or comfort advisor role. We need someone with experience selecting and sizing equipment for a heating-dominated climate, as well as familiarity with duct work design, dual fuel applications, and technical aspects of a quality heat pump installation.
The HVAC Installation Advisor should be a good communicator, adept in building professional relationships with contractors and distributors. This position will involve training contractors on quality heat pump installation strategies as well as effective sales and communication strategies to advance heat pump adoption. We need an effective collaborator and someone who can include under-represented perspectives to drive better ideas.
We welcome candidates from diverse backgrounds. While our physical offices are in Madison, WI and Chicago, IL, we have remote staff in multiple states. We welcome candidates located in the Midwest with cold climate HVAC experience.
What You’ll Do
- Engage contractor networks for program delivery and training.
- Develop curriculum and deliver training by using knowledge of market gaps and best practices regarding variable capacity heat pumps and other residential HVAC solutions.
- Advise on technical and equipment needs—possibly including design and installation of a small number of heat pump and/or control system projects.
- Partner with internal and external experts to recommend improvements and changes to programs.
- Interpret market and program data related to residential HVAC installations.
- Act as a key technical interpreter for residential HVAC work across Slipstream including research, training, financing, and more.
What We Need
- HVAC/ Mechanical Contractor license
- Minimum of three years’ experience installing & selecting residential HVAC equipment
- Knowledge and experience of HVAC products with dual fuel and cold climate capable heat pumps
- Excellent communication and project management skills
Physical:
- Primarily a sedentary role, with tasks typically performed while sitting or occasionally standing.
- Ability to operate a computer and standard office equipment.
- Use tools or controls.
- Tasks demand visual focus for reading and working on screens.
- Use close vision, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth, and adjust focus.
- This position frequently communicates via phone and video conferencing, with in-person interactions as applicable.
- Walking, bending, crawling, stooping, crouching, squatting, kneeling, twisting (neck/trunk), reaching with arms, and reaching overhead. Occasionally required to walk or stand, balance, stoop, crouch or crawl, and climb stairs.
- Occasionally lift or move 25-50 lbs.
Work Environment
- Fully remote position with the ability to work from home or another suitable location with reliable internet access.
- Must have the ability to work independently while staying engaged with the team through virtual communication tools such as email, chat, and video conferencing.
- Requires a quiet and professional workspace for virtual meetings and collaboration.
- Typical schedule of 9–5 in Central Time zone. Flex hours may be available depending on role and team requirements.
- Up to 30% travel required.
