Consulting Intern – Social Value Measurement & Future System Development 

Introduction

Sirio, a boutique consulting firm, is looking for a driven and resourceful consulting intern to join its rapidly growing team. The intern will work alongside members of the team to support high-profile clients in the energy, utilities and public sectors. This position offers a unique opportunity for an entrepreneurial individual to grow alongside the company and gain early exposure to applied research, analysis and consulting delivery. 

The internship duration is for six months. During this period, the main focus areas will be in the social value measurement and future system development verticals. This role is best suited to candidates with prior academic or professional research experience who are comfortable working with structured methodologies and complex evidence.

Role Description

This internship is primarily research-led. The successful candidate will support structured research, evidence review, data analysis and synthesis tasks across Sirio’s social value measurement and future system development work-streams, with a particular focus on appraisal, evaluation and evidence-based decision support.

As an Intern, you will:

• Deliver project work under guidance from experienced team members, with a strong focus on structured desk-based research, data analysis, evidence review and synthesis to support Sirio’s social value measurement and DSO projects. This will include preparation of supporting analysis and client deliverables such as Word documents, PowerPoint presentations or Excel dashboards. 
• Undergo training sessions with experienced consultants and make use of self-training resources, made available on an ad-hoc basis to develop your skills and capabilities.
• Contribute to the commercial activity of the firm: for example, proposing innovative ideas for products and services, supporting proposals and other client material development, performing market research to support proposal development.
• Contribute to the development of intellectual property by supporting the publication of articles, research and the development of tools and products sold to clients under subscription models.
• Contribute to the growth of Sirio as a fast-growing, young business by proposing and implementing internal initiatives aimed at a wide range of functions, from skills development, employee wellbeing, and increased productivity.

 

Qualifications

We are looking for recent graduates (<1 year experience) characterised by the following:

• An entrepreneurial mindset.
• Degree qualified with a preference for M-level, with backgrounds in Public Policy / Environmental Sciences / Climate Change / Sustainability / ESG / Energy Systems / or similar fields of study.
• Curious, dynamic and proactive self-thinkers with the ambition and drive to play a role in growing a nascent company.
• Ability to deliver work independently, under guidance and supervision, and to go the extra mile to identify and suggest possible solutions and new ways of working.
• A genuine and demonstrable interest in the energy sector and, especially, the involvement of households and businesses in the energy system transition.
• Strong verbal, written and presentation skills.
• Strong analytical skills (both qualitative and quantitative).
• Fluent or native in English.
• The right to work in the UK. We do not hold a sponsorship licence.
• Good working knowledge of MS Office products, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
• Nice to haves: 
• Demonstrable academic or professional research experience related to social value, impact evaluation, public policy appraisal or cost-benefit analysis. 
• Familiarity with concepts such as SROI, HM Treasury Green Book appraisal, or evaluation of social and environmental outcomes. 
• Experience working with quantitative or mixed-methods evidence (e.g. literature reviews, secondary datasets, surveys). 
• Programming (e.g. R, Python, VBA, Microsoft Power Platform) knowledge and/or experience.
