Company Description The Singapore Environment Council (SEC), established in 1995, is an independently managed, non-profit, non-governmental organisation that shapes sustainability dialogue and coordinates environmental efforts in Singapore. As an approved charity, SEC works closely with donors and offers tax exemption to support a wide range of environmental programmes and initiatives. These include national and regional awards, eco-certification schemes, and campaigns that promote sustainable practices among businesses, schools, and communities. SEC also develops training and education programmes for the public, private, and people sectors, building skills and awareness for long-term environmental protection. Through strong partnerships with corporations, government agencies, and other NGOs, SEC has provided leadership and direction to the environmental movement in Singapore.
Role Description The Deputy Executive Director (DED) supports the Executive Director in leading and managing the Singapore Environment Council (SEC). The DED is responsible for driving organisational performance, operational excellence, business growth, financial sustainability, governance compliance and people leadership across the organisation.
The role serves as the principal deputy to the Executive Director and ensures the successful execution of SEC's strategic priorities while maintaining the highest standards of governance, accountability and stewardship expected of an Institution of a Public Character (IPC).
The DED oversees day-to-day organisational operations, facilitates cross-functional collaboration and leads strategic initiatives that enhance SEC's impact, reputation and sustainability.
Qualifications
- Proven leadership and management skills, including team leadership, strategic planning, and organisational development.
- Experience in sustainability, environmental policy, or related fields, with the ability to translate environmental objectives into actionable programmes.
- Strong stakeholder and partnership management skills, including experience working with government agencies, corporations, NGOs, and community groups.
- Excellent communication skills, including public speaking, advocacy, and the ability to engage diverse audiences on environmental and sustainability topics.
- Demonstrated capability in programme and project management, including budgeting, resource allocation, and impact evaluation.
- Experience in governance support and risk management, preferably within non-profit or charity organisations.
- Relevant tertiary qualification in environmental studies, public policy, business administration, social sciences, or a related discipline.
- Ability to work on-site in Singapore, with a high level of integrity, accountability, and commitment to SEC’s mission.
