Manager, Sustainability Specialist (Carbon)
JOB PURPOSE
The role primarily exists to drive Sime’s GHG emissions reporting in a clear, credible, and compelling manner. It serves as a specialist position responsible for managing and coordinating emissions reporting practices and associated projects across Sime.
Key responsibilities include:
- Enhancing and implementing processes to accurately track and report Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions across Sime.
- Supporting climate-related reporting and the adoption of climate-related sustainability practices.
- Analyzing and supporting the implementation of internal change management activities, such as carbon pricing.
- Facilitating activities across the multinational organization, including generating the GHG inventory and related trackers and registers.
- Developing effective targets and governance processes that enable progress toward Sime’s goals, while identifying opportunities across customer offerings and operational settings that create value. This includes preparing business cases for senior management to secure support and investment in climate change projects.
- Supporting emission reduction activities to minimize climate impact by ensuring risks are effectively considered in corporate governance, business strategy, risk management, and disclosure frameworks, in line with emerging regulatory requirements, stakeholder expectations, and best practices.

Functional Objectives
- Develop and execute a strategic engagement plan and internal change management plan aligned with Sime’s Sustainability Blueprint and GHG emissions reporting requirements.
- Ensure agreed methods and measures are in place to successfully deliver carbon reduction activities in line with strategy.
- Support the Sime Sustainability Function and key stakeholder groups by coaching and mentoring best-practice methods for engagement and communication to promote successful ESG-focused and decarbonization outcomes.
- Identify and report opportunities for continuous system and administrative improvement.
- Maintain role competence through proactive self-development and training.

Role-Specific Deliverables
- Execute aspects of a strategic carbon reduction implementation plan and internal change management plan aligned with Sime’s Sustainability Blueprint, decarbonization opportunities, and IFRS reporting requirements.
- Support the design, development, implementation, and ongoing evolution of Sime’s approach to climate-related knowledge development and management, including research, data analytics, and scenario planning.
- Lead the development and application of methodologies for measuring Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions at Group, Divisional, Business Unit, and Country levels.
- Contribute to establishing effective targets and governance processes that enable progress toward Sime’s goals and identify opportunities that create value.
- Support Group/Divisions/Business Units in meeting targets, including developing business cases for senior management to secure support and investment in climate change projects.
- Partner with relevant stakeholders on emission reduction opportunities and integration of climate-related financial implications, including carbon pricing, into financial management processes.
- Lead research, data collection, and analysis on emissions and climate-related issues.
- Manage the tracking and reporting of Scope 3 emissions across the organization.
- Provide expertise and advice on climate-related issues to the broader business.
- Support the development of NGER, Sustainability Reports, and CDP sustainability reporting requirements.
- Monitor sustainability disclosure requirements, with a specific focus on climate.
- Integrate carbon-related sustainability into the Group’s Annual Report and other disclosure mechanisms.
- Identify sustainability disclosure assurance requirements.
- Align climate-related strategies with ESG reporting and integration pathways across Sime.
- Support the Group and Divisions Sustainability Program Management Office.
- Identify systems and processes to provide assurance and resilience through organizational governance activities.
- Drive improvement and innovation opportunities in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum bachelor’s degree in Environmental Management, Science, Engineering, or tertiary qualifications in Commerce/Business or a related discipline.
- At least 7 years’ experience in a carbon reporting role within a diversified company.
- Demonstrated experience in developing decarbonization plans, including stakeholder engagement and commercial review.
- Experience in corporate strategy and/or climate policy.
- Working knowledge of government and industry climate change policies, legislation, and compliance requirements, as well as climate reporting in line with IFRS S2.
- Ability to manage and influence sustainable outcomes across a large and complex organization, including prior experience working with regionally diversified businesses (e.g., Malaysia, Australia, China).
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with strong attention to detail.
- Strong organizational and technical skills.
- Proven collaborative skills across a multi-stakeholder matrix organization.
- Good interpersonal and multitasking abilities.
