Salary: $85,000–$100,000, depending on experience (higher for strong commercial/O&M ops background).

Position Overview:

The Service Manager is a hybrid administrative and technical position, responsible for managing residential and emerging commercial solar PV service operations. This role requires strong technical troubleshooting abilities, experience in solar technology, project and customer management skills, and the ability to develop service as a profit center.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage 20-30 active service tickets monthly for residential and commercial solar installations, ensuring timely resolution.
  • Perform remote troubleshooting (inverters, optimizers, battery systems, monitoring dashboards).
  • Schedule and dispatch service techs; create and maintain technician schedules.
  • Provide customer communication, including conflict de-escalation and expectation management.
  • Oversee billing and project tracking; ensure accurate and timely customer invoicing.
  • Occasionally visit project sites (2-3 times/month, local only).
  • Coordinate with manufacturers for RMA/warranty processes.
  • Collaborate on developing and selling O&M (operations and maintenance) service packages, especially for commercial clients.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of service work.
  • Use Microsoft Office Suite and solar industry monitoring platforms (e.g., SolarEdge, Enphase, Tesla, SMA).
  • Ensure high responsiveness: return customer contacts within 24 hours.

Requirements:

  • Technical expertise in solar PV systems, preferably with field installation/troubleshooting background (especially beneficial if moving into operations management).
  • Understanding of inverters, optimizers, battery and microgrid systems; ability to interpret single line diagrams and NEC compliance.
  • Strong organizational skills; experience in project or service management.
  • Experience with customer conflict resolution.
  • Familiarity with local and industry-specific solar equipment/software.
  • Ability to develop service offerings and identify profit opportunities in O&M.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and interest in department/building business development.
