Duration: 12-16 hours per week for 6 months

Sierra Club is comprised of staff across the country and a network of local chapters that support our grassroots engagement.


Scope: Educates Sierra Club members about current conservation campaigns, raise money, and mobilize volunteers through the phone outreach program. The Development Associate is responsible for contacting Sierra Club members during evening phone banks to educate members, raise money, and identify environmental volunteers.


Job activities include but are not limited to:

  • Contacts Sierra Club members through the phone program to: educate Sierra Club members on environmental issues and the conservation agenda, raise money for Chapter activities, and to identify environmental volunteers.
  • Develops and maintains expertise in environmental issues and Sierra Club campaigns.
  • Documents member responses to phone contacts.
  • Enters data into a computerized database system.
  • Comfortable working remotely.
  • Performs miscellaneous duties as required.

The successful candidate must have the following skills and experience:

  • Attention to detail
  • Highly organized
  • Familiar with Google Docs and Sheets
  • Passion and drive to take action on local environmental issues and uphold Sierra Club sustainability goals.
  • Equity Analysis and Practice. You are aware of your group identities and how they have shaped your life and experiences at work. You have an analysis of how racism and other forms of oppression in society impact relationships, systems and culture. You bring experience and skills for working effectively with colleagues across group identities and position/role.

The strongest candidates will also demonstrate the following experience, skills and competencies:

  • Excellent telephone communication skills.
  • Ability to learn fundraising and political organizing skills.
  • Experience effectively navigating complex organizational systems, structures, and dynamics.
  • Experience with Salesforce

Compensation and Benefits

The salary for this position is $30/hour for 12-16 hours per week.

This is a category 99 temporary, part-time, non-exempt position for a maximum duration of 6 months.

Sierra Club is a 501(c)(4) non-profit organization. Sierra Club employees are not eligible to participate in the Federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program.
