Senior Legal Counsel - Insurance and Risk
A Snapshot of Your Day In this position, you will serve as a subject-matter expert on the law of insurance and the interplay between insurance coverage and contractual obligations such as indemnity and warranty. You'll provide counsel on legal topics related to insurance and risk management in support of the worldwide activities of Siemens Energy, Inc. and all US-based Siemens Energy businesses. How You'll Make an Impact
- Support negotiation of customer and supplier contracts by reviewing, drafting, and negotiating contract provisions related to insurance, indemnity, warranty, risk of loss and other provisions pertinent to property/casualty risks
- Support US Litigation team on insured matters, subrogation lawsuits, and matters involving potential insurance coverage issues for involved parties
- Advise project teams and Legal colleagues involved in project implementation on legal topics related to insurance to ensure proper handling of insurable risks that arise on projects in execution
- Counsel cross-functional teams on preparation/submission of insurance claims, including claims involving multiple business units and/or Siemens Energy regional companies
- Provide legal support for discussions with major insurance brokers/markets concerning insurability of Siemens Energy products
- Coordinate and interface with Siemens Energy's INS (insurance) function, serving as the primary interface between SE INS and the US Legal & Compliance team
- A law degree (JD) from an ABA accredited law school with 5+ years of litigation experience in insurance defense or insurance coverage, and bar membership in good standing in one or more states. Transactional experience in support of commercial contracts is a strong plus.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to write clearly and precisely in English for both domestic and international audiences (writing sample may be required), including ability to give presentations to management at all levels.
- An open mind and willingness to be a self-starter, learn new things, and embrace complexity.
- Ability to work independently on a small team in a fast-paced environment while managing a dynamic workload involving multiple active negotiations and claim matters.
- Willingness to travel, domestically and internationally, from time to time.
