Job description

This role resides within the Asset Performance Team in COO Office, and reports to the Vice President, Environmental Sustainability. You will be responsible for the identification of environmental, social, and physical climate risks and development of mitigation measures; as well as analyse and transform climate, nature/biodiversity related data into actionable insights, initiatives and engineering projects. The role requires strategic thinking, regulatory awareness, strong stakeholder engagement, and analytical depth to minimize environmental and social risks and impacts, and prepare Sembcorp towards climate resilience.


Key Roles and Responsibilities

A. Environmental and Social Risk Assessment

  • Assess environmental, social, and climate-related risks, dependencies, and mitigation strategies to support investment decisions
  • Participate in due diligence reviews of investment papers and project documentation
  • Support internal teams in meeting environmental and social requirements and developing related policies and guidelines
  • Conduct Line 2 review on environmental and social action plans from selected sites
  • Oversee the collection, monitoring and reporting of environmental, social, physical hazards and biodiversity data across Sembcorp’s global operations for reporting
  • Contribute to digitalisation initiatives on process improvement


B. Physical Risk Management

  • Identify and evaluate physical climate risks and impact across global operations using cloud-based risk management platforms
  • Support in the development of methodologies to assess risks, vulnerabilities and impacts, as well as mitigation and adaptation measures across different energy asset types within Sembcorp
  • Collaborate with Markets and cross-functional teams to manage climate resilience projects. Lead on the provision of climate data and analysis to engineering projects
  • Keep up-to-date with the latest research, technologies and best practices in the field of climate science, physical risk and resource availability
  • Provide technical guidance, support and training to Markets and assisting where practicable, in mentoring and development of others on climate related risks


Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in environmental management / science / engineering, biology, climate science or sustainability related discipline.
  • Experience: At least 6 years’ experience with environmental management and sustainability related field
  • Experience in environmental and social risk impact assessment, physical climate risk management or project evaluation
  • Knowledge of TCFD, TNFD, CDP and international standards (e.g., IFC Performance Standards, ISSB, etc.)
  • Proficiency in data analysis, reporting and presentation using Microsoft Office such as Word, Excel and Powerpoint. Access and/or Power BI is desirable
  • Team player who is detailed oriented, self-motivated, resourceful and accountable
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong analytical, communication, problem solving and critical thinking skills, as well as strong project management and execution capability
  • Ability to travel occasionally

Additional Desirable Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in relevant field
  • Familiar with risk management framework related to environmental management, climate science nature, biodiversity or physical climate hazards
