If you are looking to launch a career in the energy sector while making a real difference in your community, join Ava Community Energy as an Outreach & Engagement Fellow through the Climate Corps program. This is a hybrid position with the expectation of onsite work 2 days per week (Tuesdays and Thursdays), as well as some evening and weekend events.
In this role, you’ll sit at the intersection of climate action and community building, representing Ava at local events and partnering with organizations to connect residents to the benefits of clean energy. Working under the direction of the Outreach & Engagement Manager, you’ll gain hands-on experience in marketing and customer education, making a tangible difference by bridging the gap between clean energy policy and local impact.

Ava Community Energy (Ava) exists to provide more renewable energy at competitive rates to our customers. Ava reinvests excess revenue into the community to create local green energy jobs, electrification programs, and clean power projects. They supply electricity to all accounts (residential, business, and municipal), and PG&E delivers it.

- Monthly internal 'lunch & learns' featuring presentations by different departments at Ava.
- Engage with and educate members of the public about our services at community events, sponsored sports games, and public speaking engagements.
- Directly interact with our customers, providing information and answering questions, while making a tangible impact on our local community.
- Work with partner community organizations on creative outreach & engagement campaigns to raise awareness of Ava's benefits and build trust in the community
- Collaborate with teammates on the outreach and marketing teams to develop creative sponsorship activations and practical education projects.
- Interest in the energy sector and delivering an excellent customer experience.
- Knowledge of Alameda County and local events such as farmers' markets.
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Demonstrate patience, tact, and courtesy; exercise sound judgment, creative problem solving, and effective dispute resolution.
- Ability to clearly communicate with the site supervisor.
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office or Google Suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Flexible/adjusted work hours (must be willing to work weekends) - requirement for evenings/weekends when relevant.
- Must have a Driver's License and a car to be able to transport marketing materials to events.
- The ability to work onsite on a hybrid basis, typically 2 days per week (Tuesdays and Thursdays). This position requires the employee to be physically located within commuting distance of the site location at the time of hire. Only candidates currently residing within commuting distance of the site address will be considered.

- Authorization to work in the United States for the duration of the fellowship (SEI is unable to sponsor visas).
- May require occasional moving about to accomplish tasks, moving from one worksite to another, or adjusting or moving objects under 25-50 pounds in all directions.
- Must be 18 years or older to apply.
- Spanish and/or Cantonese/Mandarin Speaking highly desired.
What We Provide
- A fixed, monthly stipend of $4000.
- $1000 end-of-program financial award.
- Healthcare coverage with 100% of healthcare insurance premiums covered by SEI.
- Climate Corps Fellows receive 10 personal days for a standard 10-month fellowship (equivalent to about 1 day per month), which may be used for vacation, holidays, or sick time. Fellowships longer than 10 months include additional days, prorated accordingly.
