Overview & Background

The Climate Resilience and Sustainability Outreach Coordinator will work in the University of California’s Office of the President (UCOP) on projects that help advance UC’s locations’ (campuses and health systems) progress toward meeting their carbon neutrality and sustainability goals. The fellow will report to the Associate Director of Sustainability and will be part of UCOP’s Energy and Sustainability team.

Roles & Responsibilities

The fellow’s primary responsibility will be to help UC’s locations conduct equity-centered climate resilience assessments. This role will involve working with the resilience leadership committee and external consultants to guide locations in implementing UC’s Framework for J.E.D.I.-Centered Climate Resilience Planning (https://drive.google.com/file/d/14mxoRSax_pctu1j-n0ImSxVq_Pbd8d5s/view?usp=sharing). In addition to helping coordinate the overall project, the fellow will:

  • Lead the development of a library of climate resilience best practices;
  • Help guide locations in conducting local climate impact assessments;
  • Support local staff who will be conducting stakeholder outreach events to vulnerable populations; and
  • Help advance projects within UCOP’s own community to improve climate resilience.

The fellow will also:

  • Oversee communications and outreach for the sustainability team (e.g., producing the department’s bi-weekly newsletter, managing the Twitter account, and updating website content);
  • Help support and coordinate the activities of UC Carbon Neutrality Fellows placed throughout the system; and,
  • Assist with sustainability projects for UCOP’s internal operations (e.g., help coordinate an employee resource group; implement best practices for waste, water, or transportation; prepare reports).

Additionally, this fellow will help support the Sustainability Team’s ongoing work, including organizing systemwide meetings and events, supporting working groups to develop policies, briefing papers, and best practices, and collecting & analyzing sustainability data.
