About the Team

The Quality Supervisor - General Assembly will report directly to the Quality Assembly Manager, the role involves overseeing the general assembly manufacturing processes and will manage the activities and staff for the specific control plan/torque quality inspections, perform process audits, and implement quality control measures. Additionally, they will manage the development of and maintain written quality standards and procedures to ensure consistent quality products. Experience with VDA (Verband der Automobilindustrie) standards and a working knowledge of automotive processes are essential for this role.

What you'll do

Become part of an iconic brand that is set to revolutionize the electric pick-up truck & rugged SUV marketplace by achieving the following:

Training, support and lead:

  • Supervise 30+ hourly team members in the different assembly quality control points (CP6, rollers/aligners, ADAS, test track, water test, CP7, CP8) as well as respective rework validations stations.
  • Responsible for assuring the team is trained in root cause analysis and problem resolution in the different quality control points.
  • Manage activities for training of members in subjects such as mandatory documentation (BZD as well as TLD), bolting bases, use of bolting tools, documentation procedure in case of failure, good and bad practices, factors that affect the screwing process, etc.
  • Assist in the development of training materials and programs related to general assembly.
  • Provide training and mentorship to team members, ensuring they have the necessary skills to excel in their roles.
  • Support initial builds, vehicle launches, and production ramp-ups to ensure quality targets are met from VFF, PVS, 0-series to series operation.
  • Monitor employee work performance and prepare performance reviews to provide continuous feedback.

Process Audits:

  • Support regular process audits of the general assembly product and process to ensure compliance with quality standards, including VDA requirements and procedures.
  • Evaluate adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and identify opportunities for process improvements for control plan/torque audit activities.
  • Review audit results related with control plan/torque audit activities and track the effectiveness of corrective and preventive actions.

Writing and Maintaining Standards:

  • Product control through the measurement of residual torque, considering the restrictions as: estimated time of measurement, critical characteristic of use, example: screw/nuts with "anti-loosening" assurance.
  • Assure compliance of the specification of the screw tools options according to category, types of tightening (torque controlled - manual, below the yield point: angle-of-rotation-controlled or installation beyond the elastic limit: angle-of-rotation-controlled) special conditions, etc.
  • Manage activities to assure the classification of tightening according to the criticality that this represents for the client: Category A, B and C (According To VDI 2862)) VW0110.
  • Manage activities for assurance of the product specifications before the release of bolting equipment for pre series as well as series (documentation, control, procedures, and requirements to be met)
  • Manage joint verification process, implementation, and improve Joint Calculator by creating more precise data, new features.
  • Develop, create and implement quality standards and projects including the corresponding specifications or general conditions for the department.
  • Ensure that written standards are up-to-date, clear, and aligned with industry best practices and VDA standards.

Process Improvement:

  • Assure compliance of product specifications for the screw joins (joint types, types of tightening, product control, calibration of screwing tools, step parametrization).
  • Improve torque processes looking for ergonomic best options, screw drive system supplier options, product supervision options such as residual torque, minimum torque value, tightening screw curve analyses, among others.
  • Lead activities for implementing correct torque value for both in house and supplier assembled joints.
  • Communicate the results of analysis on fault management systems related with control plan/torque audit activities to involve the person responsible for solving and eliminating the fault to ensure product quality standards and, through this, factory indicators and customer satisfaction.
  • Collect and interpret relevant historical data to determine the solution and elimination of faults to ensure product quality standards and, through this, factory indicators and customer satisfaction.
  • Check with the person responsible the corrective measures defined and implemented to control their effectiveness for the solution and elimination of faults.
  • Assumption of special tasks corresponding to the skills and duties of the job holder.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, market dynamics and regulatory requirements related to the automotive industry.

Compliance and Documentation:

  • Ensure all quality standards and cycle time achievements are met.
  • Ensure compliance with automotive industry standards, including VDA standards, and environmental regulations related to general assembly.
  • Maintain accurate records of control plan and torque quality inspections, test results, process audits, and written quality standards.
  • Prepare and submit quality reports and documentation as required.
  • Present analysis results in management forums to report the status of the solution and elimination of faults to transparently generate the steps to follow to achieve quality standards.

Customer Interaction:

  • Collaborate with responsible design groups for designing joints and torque/load calculations.
  • Lead and assist production in all quality and process related torque/clamp load topics and issues.
  • Work with joining/fastener laboratory to prioritize, execute and report each joint test.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams within engineering and operations to design and implement robust quality systems, processes, and controls for compliance of product requirements related with control plan/torque audit activities.
  • This role is carried out responsibly in collaboration with supervisors, employees, involved and affected departments - in compliance with existing guidelines, standards, and regulations.

Audit and Inspection Support:

  • Assist with internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and information.
  • Support the preparation and execution of audits to ensure compliance with quality standards and VDA requirements.

Location & Travel Expectations:

  • This role will be based out of the Scout Motors location in Blythewood, South Carolina.
  • The responsibilities of this role require daily attendance at in-person meetings and events regularly.
  • Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company.
  • Travel: Approximately 30% of the time, internationally and domestically. Valid driver's license and passport required.

  • Education/Certifications: Bachelor's degree in mechanical, materials or quality engineering or a related field preferred.
  • Years of Experience 5-7+ years of professional experience in automotive production and quality control concepts or a related field, including hands-on experience with general assembly product and processes. Proven experience with VDA standards is plus.
  • Travel:
    • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally approximately 30% of the time.
    • Valid driver's license required
    • Passport required
  • Strong and effective written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience of launching Greenfield or Brownfield plant preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of automotive processes, products, and materials, including familiarity with assembly tools, equipment, and best practices in the general assembly processes.
  • Experience in fastener engineering or related fields.
  • Strong understanding of VDA standards and their application in the automotive industry.
  • Exceptional understanding of the interactions between torque, clamp load, friction.
  • Experience using 2D and 3D design (Catia V5 Preferred) & GD&T.
  • Experience developing torque values based on design requirements.
  • Experience in fastener/joint tests, (e.g. destructive and non-destructive tests clamp load, torque, joint slip test)
  • Excellent writing skills for developing clear and comprehensive quality standards and procedures.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong self-responsibility, planning, and organizational skills, able to perform multi-tasks within set time frames, and strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Hands-on experience with electrical systems and mechanical assembly techniques.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and quality management software.
  • Production standard understanding and derivation of the effects on processes, equipment and product.
  • Skills in web-based applications.
  • Costumer orientated skills, as well as attention to detail and commitment to quality.

Pay Transparency

This is a full-time, exempt position eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent.

Initial base salary range = $95,000.00 - $120,000.00
