As a Forecasting Analyst within our People Team at ScottishPower, you will provide technical expertise to support Business Planning, Budgeting and Forecasting for personnel costs, ensuring accurate, robust and timely calculations.
Your focus will be on maintaining a detailed understanding of live headcount versus budget and forecast, providing clear and comprehensive insights that facilitate informed decision-making across the organisation and strengthening data controls and governance. The Forecasting Analyst will report into the Financial Planning Manager and deputise for line management when required.

As a Forecasting Analyst within our People Team at ScottishPower, you will provide technical expertise to support Business Planning, Budgeting and Forecasting for personnel costs, ensuring accurate, robust and timely calculations.

What You'll Be Doing
FTE / Headcount Reporting & Tracking
- Produce FTE business plans, budgets, and forecasts, consolidating and challenging business inputs through end to end financial models
- Enforce and improve FTE governance: the business owns FTE decisions; HR acts as gatekeeper to ensure robust control of FTE and associated costs
- Act as custodian of headcount data and improve controls where possible
- Develop and maintain a rolling FTE forecast, providing a consolidated, current view of Group FTE status
- Integrate recruitment status, actuals, budget, and forecast data across HR into a single consolidated tracker
- Design and implement a standardised data collection process with shared understanding across People team
- Consult with stakeholders to discuss outcomes, drawing attention to potential risks and concerns
- Lead and support financial business planning, budgeting, and forecasting, ensuring timely and accurate commentary and presentation materials
- Manage extensive stakeholder engagement across Business Leads, Group Control, Group People, and People Teams
- Support rapid and accurate re‑forecasting in response to challenges or changes, in line with deadlines
- Partner with Reward to ensure pay deals, merit, bonus, and reward activity are accurately reflected in personnel costs
- Deliver ad‑hoc scenario modelling as required
- Provide guidance to HR Business Partners and Control teams throughout the forecast and budget cycle
- Support Group Control with non‑forecast activities, including year‑end processes, bonus estimation, and accrual reconciliation
- Continuously assess and improve forecasting processes and tools (including Oracle), updating documentation and enhancing reporting and analysis
- Contribute actively to key stakeholder forums, ensuring FTE and personnel cost implications are fully understood and supported by robust analysis
- Produce ad‑hoc management information on FTE and personnel costs
- Support Performance & Governance projects, including workforce planning, FTE analysis beyond the current year, process improvement, audit activity, and business partner support
- Play a key role in shaping governance frameworks, implementing financial controls & collating performance data for management review
- Build and maintain strong relationships across HR and the wider business
- Maintain a strong control environment aligned to Group policy, with up‑to‑date documentation
- Support major business initiatives (e.g. pricing reviews, business change) with timely, relevant analysis
- Support HR leadership in delivering departmental objectives and managing evolving scope and requirements
- Contribute positively to team culture and proactively identify process improvements
- Qualified Accountant (or relevant experience) with considerable PQE working in a reporting role
- Highly numerate with degree in numerical subject and financial modelling experience
- Able to work effectively as part of a small team
- Understanding and experience of relevant IT applications / systems including Oracle and SAP (Finance)
- Effective analytical skills with the ability to assimilate a large amount of complex, interlinked data using modern analytical tools
- Demonstrates excellent communication skills at all levels – verbal and written with particular emphasis on being able to make those from non-financial backgrounds comfortable with financial information
- Effective influencing skills with confidence and ability to constructively challenge at all levels
- Pro-active person who anticipates issues and puts into place effective strategies to manage these
- Delivery focus and high level of resilience to deal with the continually changing demands and time-pressures of the role
- Strong organisational skills and time management being able to work with a large volume of information and ability to prioritise workload
- Commercially aware, and self-motivated individual
- Qualified Accountant/consideration will be given to a candidate who can demonstrate significant and relevant experience of delivery within Finance roles
- Highly numerate with degree in numerical subject
- Strong commercial awareness
- Motivated self-starter with strong analytical, numerical, and communication skills
- Capability to manage sensitive personnel cost information with discretion
