Job Title: AEMS Engineering and Design Senior Engineer – Smart Grids
Location: Glasgow

Advanced Energy Management Systems (AEMS) Team will be responsible for the specification, planning, and strategic development of Smart Grid applications and systems that enhance the functionalities of the Electrical Network through the deployment of advanced Electrical Control Systems.
AEMS team plays a key role in the evolution of SPEN towards DSO and TSO Smart Grid Applications such as Active Network Management (ANM), Wide Area Monitoring Systems (WAMS), Circuit Rating Management, Dynamic Line Rating, and REPOWER together with overarching Orchestration systems will be responsibility of AEMS team.
This role is required to design and deliver Distribution and Transmission projects as well as to take over Standardisation and Strategy of AEMS as defined in our Price Control plans to improve the resiliency and availability of the network.
The AEMS Engineering and Design Engineer will have responsibility for defining the technical solutions and technical standards The Engineer will produce the design so that it can be successfully delivered and onboarded.
What You’ll Be Doing
You will contribute and support the Engineering & Design Team Lead with the following team wide activities:
Price Control – Review NP&R AEMS related Price Control Strategy & Initiatives, PoC and Trials, prepare ED3/T3 Price Control Input, and maintain AEMS Master Plan
Supplier Procurement - Supplier Contracts, prepare IP Papers for DSRG/PAM Approval
Standards Definition – definition, communication and education on appropriate technical standards within the technology area.
Design – supporting the design of solutions, facilitating compliance with Group standards and direction
Process definition- Define streamlined process to efficient and timely delivery of the projects
Process Documentation – Keep an updated documentation library including the description of Engineering and Design process for the different AEMS applications (i.e. ANM, GEMS, DR, CRMS). Define and keep updated process documentation for internal and external customers and contractors.
Project Definition – Support the development of business cases that define the costs, benefits and delivery approach related to systems development or refresh.
Project Delivery – Support the Delivery team to ensure successful completion, with effective stakeholder communication throughout.
Supplier Engagement – Developing and maintaining relationships with suppliers and supervising the delivery of services from them to ensure on-time, on-budget performance.
Technical input to architectural planning – Utilising relevant expertise to ensure that architectural plans and budgets reflect the activities and investment required to move from the current state to the desired state
Provide expert opinion to evaluate and recommend new system solutions and technologies.
Planning of new customer needs, like new technologies and new infrastructures from electrical applications perspective.

Proven track record of design and delivery that balances technical and commercial judgement.
In-depth technical experience in Smart Grid applications or application development of real-time control systems.

- Effective prioritisation of work.
- Experience ideally gained through operational, technical, and commercial engineering roles.
