Lead the future of technical training at the heart of Scotland’s energy transition
Our Training Centres are the beating heart of ScottishPower's technical capability, serving as nationally significant hubs for the development and assurance of technical skills and health & safety compliance across nationally critical energy infrastructure. As our dedicated training centres, Dealain House in Cumbernauld and Hoylake House on The Wirral, deliver everything from craft skills development to complex authorisations across our operational workforce. Technical Training sets the standard for our current and future workforce.
Each year, hundreds of apprentices, trainees and experienced engineers develop and maintain the skills that keep our networks safe, resilient and ready for the future. Last year alone, over 500,000 hours of training were delivered, the majority supporting our Energy Networks business - directly underpinning grid modernisation and the delivery of an electric future.
As ScottishPower continues to invest heavily in upgrading and expanding its network infrastructure, this role is central to how we build, sustain and evolve technical capability at scale.
Role Overview
As Head of Technical Training, you will set and lead the ScottishPower wide technical training strategy, ensuring it aligns with current operational needs, business plans, and future system requirements.
A key aspect of the role is embedding high standards of health & safety, environmental and quality compliance in our future workforce, through establishing career-long expectations for health & safety compliance and customer focus amongst ScottishPower staff.
You’ll provide strategic direction across the full training lifecycle - from programme design and delivery to quality assurance, legal compliance and continuous improvement - setting clear standards and governance across all technical training provision.
Additionally, you’ll work closely with senior operational leaders, regulators and external partners to shape how technical skills are developed at scale, while ensuring our training centres, systems and facilities keep pace with evolving technology, regulation and business priorities.
This is a high-profile leadership role, combining long-term strategic impact with real operational grounding.
What You’ll Bring
This role requires an accomplished leader with deep operational engineering experience, ideally gained in utilities, infrastructure, transport, petrochemicals or other high hazard, time critical environments.
You’ll Bring
This is a rare opportunity to lead one of the most significant technical training operations in the UK energy sector.
Your leadership will directly influence how ScottishPower - and the wider industry - develops the skills required for the energy transition, underpinning grid resilience, safety and the delivery of major infrastructure investment.
If you’re motivated by purpose, scale and the opportunity to leave a lasting legacy on a nationally important capability, we’d love to hear from you.
What’s In It For You
As well as a competitive salary which is reviewed annually, you can also enjoy several other benefits. With our pension scheme, we’ll double match your contribution up to a company contribution of 10%.
At Scottish Power, we believe it’s the little things we do in life that make a big difference. From helping you look after your family’s wellbeing, save for your future, and take personal steps for climate action – our benefits are designed to help you do just that - so that you have everything you need to take care of your world – today and tomorrow.
