Site Based role – We have projects in the East Coast, Central Belt, Borders, Glasgow, Ayrshire & Dumfries and Galloway.

Salary up to £60,500 with a strong benefits package, excellent overtime opportunities available (further details below) and our excellent pension scheme, where we’ll double match your contribution up to a company contribution of 10%.

Full Time / Perm role based on a basic 37hr week.

We’re now looking for a Site Manager (Cables) to join our SPT Major Projects team. This is a key role within the business, responsible for managing construction outputs during the delivery phase of Major Projects, and ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of civils work packages across our Transmission projects.

You’ll be part of a multi‑disciplined delivery team, working closely with Construction Managers, Project Managers, HSQE consultants, Quantity Surveyors, and Design Engineers to plan and deliver major construction projects. As the primary on‑site representative, you’ll take ownership of site activities and provide technical support and advice, particularly in relation to the electrical aspects of construction stages on transmission projects.

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead the on-site management and delivery of contracted Transmission Cable work packages (Civil excavations and reinstatements, Installation of ducts , Cable laying, Cable terminations which incorporates Cable Sealing ends, Terminations, Joints, testing and commissioning). Manage the works acting as Principal Contractor to ensure regulatory compliance with Health & Safety Law and CDM regulations 2015.
  • Ensure Constructability and working methods are interpreted and aligned with Engineering Design scope, drawings, and standards, providing technical expertise and management of work packages.
  • Drive the commercial management and administration of each work package including measuring & monitoring of time and cost against agreed delivery strategy.
  • Manage contracted works and collaborate with Transmission Planning and Operational teams to establish safe work practices and minimise the impact on the high voltage system.
  • Establish and ensure robust Contractor & Supplier quality management systems are implemented and monitored to ensure compliance with contract budget and increase the whole life asset whilst reducing OPEX.
  • Ensure all Environmental Regulatory requirements are planned and managed through the contractor supply chain.
  • Ensure Customer and Stakeholder engagement is focused with regular planning and reporting updates.
  • Drive agreed OFGEM regulatory targets for Sustainability and Biodiversity.


What you’ll bring

  • Previous experience in managing transmission construction projects.
  • Ability to understand civil and structural design drawings and all inspection and testing regimes associated.
  • Primary knowledge of specifications, designs, maintenance, construction and commissioning of underground cables, monitoring and inspecting the installation of ducts systems, underground cables, horizontal directional drillings, joint bays, sealing ends and terminations, fibre optic connections.
  • Have experience in the application and compliance with GS6, HSG47, Temporary works, New Roads and Street Works Act.
  • Awareness of NEC conditions of contract.
  • Ability to implement quality assurance and environmental processes
  • Skilled in the use of PC & Microsoft Software Applications for planning and organising works, Power Points, Word, Excel, Project and able to use digital forms of communication TEAMS.
  • Primary proven knowledge and experience of specification, design, maintenance, construction, and commissioning of civil works within the confines of a Transmission substation environment.
  • Excellent negotiation and influencing skills
  • Strong leadership & planning skills.
  • Extensive experience and knowledge in all current Health and Safety legislation & understand CDM 2015 regs & duty holder roles, most notably in delivering the Principal Contractor role.
  • Proven ability to lead and work in a team and contractor’s environment. Have a proactive and flexible approach and provide a high degree of autonomy during the delivery phase of the project.


Minimum Requirements

  • HND in Engineering/Construction or equivalent site management experience (Power sector desirable)
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Current SMSTS (5‑day) qualification


Overtime Payments

Monday - Saturday 8am till midnight - Time and a half 

Monday - Saturday midnight to 8am - Double Time

Sunday - Double Time

Overtime is not mandatory.
