Job Title: 3 x Lead Commercial Managers – West, Central OR South

Location: Cambuslang

Salary From £61,600 to £77,000 + up to 20% bonus + Car allowance + Family Private Medical Cover

You will be Leading a Commercial team in your region ranging from Senior QS’s, to Trainee QS’s in coordinating commercial support through the lifecycle of the SPT project portfolios supporting the UKs Net Zero Targets in your region (from project development phase to final account and financial project closure).

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll follow the commercial strategy, managing and maintaining SPT’s Commercial interest in SPT’s portfolio of investment in your region. The Commercial team will provide the necessary support in the tendering process, financial forecasting, financial management, contract management, work collaboratively with our Contractor’s and partners while interfacing the wider support functions to deliver commercial terms of contracts.

Responsible for commercial and financial performance management ensuring maximum efficiency, quality, service and profitability for the SPT business.

Establishing and maintaining regular communication with the SPT Management Team and Lead Project Managers. Acting as the single point of contact to produce consistent and balanced collective data/reports for the business covering gateway reviews, project variations, disputes/claims, accruals, forecasting lifecycles and final accounts.

  • Monitor, maintain and achieve project portfolios with a CAPEX of circa £250m+ per annum.
  • Leading, developing and motivating a high performing commercial team.
  • Implement commercial contracting strategies that drive value, innovation, and market competition while ensuring alignment with business and regulatory objectives
  • Managing the commercial intelligence and commercial consistency processes e.g. market rates.
  • Drive improvement and standardisation across the UK business in relation to tender works with focus on commercial consistency and reducing commercial risk.
  • Managing the commercial risk to the business by establishing and maintaining regular and ad hoc tender support, managing contract and commercial risks and improvement initiatives.
  • Managing monthly commercial reviews identifying/mitigation of any potential commercial risks/disputes. Ensure projects are delivered within budget and to agreed commercial terms, managing risk, change, and claims.
  • Leading the financial management of portfolios for reporting to Lead Project Managers, including but not limited to financial forecasting, creation of investment papers for financial approval, invoice approval, PR/ PO management.
  • In conjunction with Lead Project Managers, managing the forecast and project workload requirements, coordinate QS resources to provide sufficient commercial support. Consider the level of QS resource required and where necessary organise external expertise e.g. disputes/adjudications.
  • Provide commercial expertise/guidance to QS’s within project portfolio.
  • Collaborate with SPT management, review and implement decisions associated with all commercial escalated matters.
  • Lead negotiations and manage strategic supplier/partner relationships at a project level, ensuring contract terms deliver value and risk is appropriately allocated.
  • Deliver compliance with SPT contracts and standard conditions of contract e.g. NEC4 & FIDIC.
  • Ensure adherence to corporate commercial governance, procurement policy and delegated authorities, escalating issues where necessary. Effective commercial risk management across SPT and mitigation strategies are monitored and implemented. Provide risk management expertise to SPT through the deployment of sophisticated risk management analysis and techniques.
  • Influence project staff to continuously improve the focus and management of commercial matters. Drive commercial lessons learned and continuous improvement at a portfolio level.
  • Produce monthly and ad-hoc collective commercial reports with focus on highlighting trends or areas for improvement.


What You’ll Bring

  • Proven experience in a Commercial Manager role for transmission project construction in a Civil, Electrical or Overhead Line and Cable discipline.
  • Knowledge of specification, design, maintenance, construction and commissioning of either civil, electrical or overhead line and cable works.
  • Proven experience of managing or coordinating QS teams in a high value project portfolio environment.
  • Proven track record of delivering strong results through effective stakeholder negotiation and influence, applying available information to make timely, informed choices and proactively addressing implications for commercial performance, risk, and value.
  • Capable of interpreting complex technical information and turning it into clear, actionable messages for internal stakeholders, supported by SME input and commercial awareness to determine the best approach for SPT.
  • Proven contract experience with NEC3, NEC4 (Options B, C, and E), FIDIC and EPC Contracts.
  • Proven experience of CESMM4, CEMAR, SAP S 4Hana, Power BI, and Eclipse or similar.
  • Experience of managing and responding to multiple variations, disputes and adjudications obtaining the best result for the business.
