Purpose

SP Transmission (SPT) will be delivering up to £5.4b of investment in the GB electricity grid over the next 5 years. As part of this, SPT Strategic Projects will be delivering a £3b portfolio of new overhead lines and new and upgraded substations, including design, engineering, construction and electrical works.


As Senior Finance Analyst, you will play a key role within the SPT Strategic Projects team, working closely with the Finance Lead supporting effective financial management across the Strategic Portfolio. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting budgeting and forecasting processes, and producing input for financial and regulatory reports, including Ofgem’s annual RRP. As a member of the PMO team, you will help maintain strong financial governance by assisting with financial control processes and conducting data analysis.


This role reports to the Strategic Portfolio Finance Lead.



Responsibilities

Supporting the implementation and continuous improvement of financial management standards, controls and reporting processes across the Strategic Portfolio, you will be responsible for the provision of accurate month end financial information for inclusion in Strategic Projects dashboards and ability to develop reports from SAP/PPM to meet reporting requirements.


Preparing relevant Regulatory Reporting tables for Strategic Projects for annual process reporting to Ofgem, liaising with staff within SPT Strategic Projects and across the SP Energy Networks business to ensure accurate annual returns on costs and volumes, you will also prepare quarterly regulatory returns on project costs as required, liaising with key contacts in Network Planning & Regulations.


Assisting with portfolio-level financial planning, including long-term budgeting and periodic forecasting in collaboration with the Finance Lead, Commercial team and Project teams, you will review Budgets & Forecasts submissions from Strategic Project teams with the ability to identify unusual trends and movements against key comparators (such as previous budgets and forecasts).


Preparing and maintaining cashflow trackers, monitoring project-level spend against approved budgets and highlighting variances or emerging risks, you will support Accounts Payable processes, enabling timely Contractor payments in accordance with NEC4 processes and internal governance standards.


Working closely with project teams to provide financial business support, including validating assumptions, tracking costs and assessing financial risks throughout the project lifecycle, you will generate regular portfolio-wide financial reports and metrics to support data-driven decision-making, informing governance forums whilst supporting compliance with internal financial policies, Ofgem regulatory obligations and readiness for regulatory reporting and audit.


Maintaining up-to-date financial models, supporting the tracking of financial KPIs to measure portfolio health and performance, you will support the ongoing improvement of financial systems, tools and reporting templates to enhance accuracy, efficiency and insight.


Ensuring consistency and data integrity across financial systems (e.g. SAP PPM), you will also provide support to ensure accurate portfolio tracking and reporting.



What you’ll bring

To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate, as minimum, your experience in financial analysis, budgeting or reporting within project or portfolio environments, ideally in infrastructure, utilities or capital-intensive sectors.


Proficient with IT systems, particularly Microsoft Excel and the wider Microsoft Office Suite, with familiarity in SAP/PPM and/or Power BI (beneficial), you will hold a good understanding of financial control principles, including budget tracking, cashflow monitoring and variance analysis.


With strong written and verbal communication skills and an ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues across teams, you will be organised and self-motivated with the ability to manage tasks independently, meeting deadlines and adapting to a dynamic project environment.


As a Qualified Accountant or nearing completion, or possessing a similar degree/qualification, you will hold experience working within a regulated utility, possessing a good understanding of SAP master data for monthly / annual financial and regulatory reporting.
