About The Position
Develop, undertake and direct novel research in the areas of ocean-atmosphere interactions and surface ocean biogeochemistry.
This position sits within the NIWA business unit of Earth Sciences New Zealand.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Lead innovative marine biogeochemical research with emphasis on marine carbon dioxide removal (mCDR), ocean acidification, climate-ocean interactions and marine nutrient and trace gas cycling, including the evaluation of future climate change impacts on marine ecosystems and elemental cycling.
- Lead assessment and appraisal of mCDR techniques for mitigating greenhouse gas emissions, including advice to stakeholders, policymakers and the public.
- Coordinate and service client requests for investigations and solutions, including the scoping and preparation of proposals or tenders and provision of reports, presentations and attendance at hearings
You’ll bring the following:
- A PhD in marine biogeochemistry or related topic, ideally with expertise in marine carbon cycling
- At least three years post-doctoral experience in applied marine biogeochemistry research
- Experience in leading large teams-based research projects including at sea and in the lab.
- Success in gaining external contestable research funding for yourself and others
- Strong communication skills
