The Cleantech team is seeking an Energy Market Modelling Analyst to support the team on market intelligence and energy price forecasting for countries across Asia Pacific. This role will:
- Track energy market trends (power and renewables), monitor regulatory and policy developments, and prepare market outlook reports and research articles to support consulting engagements.
- Evaluate the impacts and implications of policies and market designs on renewable energy assets, and develop long-term energy market scenarios.
- Develop and maintain models to forecast energy prices using complex statistical analysis and econometrics. Programming capabilities in Python, will be crucial to the success of this individual.
- Provide insights to our clients regarding price forecasts, risks, and drivers, and interact with clients to deliver results for consulting engagements and ongoing services.
Key Responsibilities
- Market Research & Delivery of Market Outlook Reports
- Bring detailed knowledge and continue building knowledge in energy markets, including key political, economic, and regulatory developments as they relate to global energy markets
- Review and evaluate policies and regulations related to the energy and power sectors in countries across Asia Pacific, with a focus on renewable technologies and clean energy.
- Interact with and educate internal and external clients to help them understand energy market developments, drivers, and risks
- Market Modelling & Delivery of Forecasts
- Collaborate heavily with team members to contribute to the development, maintenance, and enhancements of electricity and gas market models
- Contribute to the delivery and explanation of forecast results to internal and external clients through presentations, reports, and appropriate visualisation tools
- Bring knowledge and innovation to modelling and forecasting approaches, proving new ways to drive valuable insights to assist our clients in making successful strategic decisions
- Big Data Management & Analytics
- Build on existing knowledge and experience with big data to find meaning and extract useful insights
- Innovate to find new ways to deliver and visualise data sets for our internal and external clients
- Perform ad-hoc analyses, both commissioned and self-driven, to improve forecasts, and gain insights into energy markets
Comments
- Quantitative & Programming Acumen
- Bachelor Degree in Math, Statistics, Economics, Business, Finance, or a related technical field; Masters or PhD valued
- Experience with statistical methods and forecasting models with impeccable attention to detail
- Programming skills in Python
- Advanced computer experience in Microsoft Office Products, particularly Excel and PowerPoint
- Energy Market Knowledge
- 2-5 years of either energy market analysis experience, or software programming experience dealing with large quantitative data sets
- Knowledge of electricity market designs, dispatch mechanisms, power systems, renewable energy technologies
- Passion for gaining and sharing understanding of developments in energy markets, policy, supply/demand, upstream sectors, currencies, global markets, etc.
- Communication & Relationship Acumen
- Excellent oral and written communication skills to achieve successful communications with internal and external clients
- Ability to build trust with internal and external clients, balancing complex technical expertise with the ability to explain things concisely and simply
- Strong problem-solving skills focused on suggesting and providing solutions to clients in an emotionally intelligent manner
