Schneider Electric is looking for a Senior Design Engineer – Embedded Firmware for Battery Management Systems (BMS) & Battery Packs for its Energy Storage Center of Excellence (CoE). SE’s Energy Storage CoE enables company’s growth through the development of innovative energy storage products that are battery technology-agnostic, scalable, cost-effective, and manufacturable.

Schneider Electric is looking for a Senior Design Engineer – Embedded Firmware for Battery Management Systems (BMS) & Battery Packs for its Energy Storage Center of Excellence (CoE). SE’s Energy Storage CoE enables company’s growth through the development of innovative energy storage products that are battery technology-agnostic, scalable, cost-effective, and manufacturable.
Incumbent will be responsible for:
- Embedded Firmware design and development for Battery Management Systems for UPS and Storage applications…including Module Level, Rack Level and System level.
- Design, development, testing, debugging, documenting and launch to mass production BMS & Battery Packs that meet regulatory and safety standards, and reliability requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Execute firmware related activities for the product which covers (but not limited to) following aspects:
- Requirement elicitation and documentation
- Document firmware designs using Flowcharts, State Machine diagrams, Sequence Diagrams and others
- Implementation of code related to identified design
- Unit testing of the developed code
- Integration testing of FW with HW on bench/ battery pack
- Analysis and issue resolution of defects detected as part of unit testing, DVT, production and/ or field
- Documentation of FW test specification and reports
- Reviews
- Work closely with peer FW engineers, FW architect and HW engineers to bring up boards or support in HW validation
- Derive and review test plans/ test cases for DVP, integration tests
- Good understanding of the FW design and development process and methodology
- Strong understanding of hardware and software functions specific to embedded systems
- Experience with embedded systems product lifecycle development
- 5+ years of experience in the embedded product development (specifically FW), preferably in industrial/ automotive domain
- Experience in development on ARM Cortex M0/M4F/M7 32-bit MCU (STM/ NXP/ TI/…)
- Deep understanding of firmware concepts:
- Startup code
- Schedulers/ RTOS
- Interrupts
- Commuication protocols: CAN, SPI, I2C, MODBUS, UART
- Peripherals: Timers, ADC, DAC, WDOG, DMA
- Memories: Serial Flash, SD card, e-MMC, RAM (Stack, Heap)
- Bootloader concepts
- Design experience in layered architecture like AUTOSAR
- Well versed in design concepts of modularity, scalability, configurability
- Ability to visualize and dissect FW requirements to FW design/ architecture
- Strong programming skills in C
- Strong debugging skills
- Has worked on design of Battery Management Systems (HW/ FW)
- Knowledge of cybersecurity standards e.g. IEC62443
- Experience with FW signing, cryptographic algo usage
- Scripting experience using Python/ Shell/ others
- Knowledge/ Practical experience with Functional Safety design and implementation (ISO26262/ IEC61508)
- Familiar with typical firmware development environment: IDE, code editors, configuration management, unit testing, debuggers
- Preferable with a master's degree in embedded systems or related field
- Detail-oriented, organized, deadline-driven
- Demonstrated excellence in analytic, strategic and critical thinking
- Strong communication skills
- Being able to “think out of the box”
