Renewable Energy Specialist (Part Time)

(3 days per week) - Tues, Wed, Thursday.

Our client is looking for a professional to join a Renewable Electricity & Wind Team working across Research & Innovation, Offshore Energy, Electricity & Wind, and Heat & Bioenergy.

They are from technical backgrounds and develop evidence-based solutions that support Ireland’s energy decarbonisation goals. You will join a dynamic, collaborative team working across the Irish energy sector, supporting renewable electricity policy, market development, research, stakeholder engagement, and the delivery of high-quality analysis to inform national decision-making.


Key Responsibilities: You will:

  • Support the Department of Climate, Energy and Environment (DCEE) in delivering actions under the Climate Action Plan, including developing a supportive spatial planning framework for renewable energy.
  • Provide evidence-based advice to support legislation, policy development and implementation of European renewable energy directives.
  • Commission and manage research and expert analysis through public procurement processes.
  • Communicate findings to key stakeholders — including Government and public bodies — through reports, presentations, training sessions and other channels.
  • Prepare internal and external reports tailored to the needs of policymakers and broader audiences.
  • Help develop and maintain internal data resources, such as renewable electricity project databases.
  • Engage with national and international experts to identify best practices in spatial planning for renewable energy and apply insights in an Irish context.
  • Support national reporting obligations to the European Commission.
  • Collaborate with the research community, identifying knowledge gaps and contributing renewable energy expertise.
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects and stakeholder relationships to ensure timely, high-impact delivery.

Essential Experience & Qualifications

  • A min NFQ Level 7 degree in a discipline related to renewable energy policy, spatial planning, environmental or natural sciences, or similar fields.
  • At least four years' directly relevant experience, particularly in spatial planning for renewable energy and environmentally sustainable policy implementation.
  • (Postgraduate research Master’s or PhD may be counted toward this experience.)
  • Experience applying environmental assessment frameworks such as SEA, ESG or Lifecycle Carbon Analysis.
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary environments and managing projects with diverse stakeholders.
  • A strong track record in delivering programmes, analyses or equivalent outputs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and presenting technical information to non-technical audiences.

Desirable

  • Public sector experience.
  • Postgrad (Master’s or PhD) relevant to sustainable spatial planning for renewable energy.
  • Chartered membership of a relevant professional body.
  • Experience leading teams on high-profile projects.
  • Track record in delivering public-interest research.
  • Irish language proficiency.
