Role: Project Manager – C&I Solar

Location: Chicago, Illinois (Hybrid – Site & Office Based)

Samuel Knight Energy is partnering with a growing Solar EPC contractor delivering Commercial & Industrial (C&I) solar projects across the Midwest. With a strong pipeline in Illinois and surrounding states, our client is expanding their Chicago-area team and seeking a Project Manager to take ownership of projects from award through commissioning.

This is a hybrid role combining office-based project leadership with regular site presence. You will not be managing from behind a desk alone — you'll be visible on site, driving schedule, coordinating subcontractors, and ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and on budget.

The Role

As Project Manager, you will oversee multiple C&I solar installations including rooftop, carport, and small ground-mount systems. Projects will range in size and complexity, requiring strong commercial awareness and practical construction management experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Full lifecycle management of C&I solar projects
  • Develop and maintain project schedules and cost controls
  • Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams
  • Lead site meetings and maintain client relationships
  • Manage procurement and material tracking
  • Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards
  • Support permitting, inspections, and commissioning processes

Requirements

  • 3+ years experience managing solar or electrical construction projects
  • Experience in C&I solar preferred (rooftop, carport, distributed generation)
  • Strong understanding of scheduling, budgeting, and contract management
  • Comfortable splitting time between site and office environments
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Based in or willing to relocate to the Chicago area
