To strengthen our team, and in pursuit of new business opportunities, we are seeking an experienced M&A Analyst – Development & Investment for our Renewable Energy Business Unit in Sydney.


Position Overview

Samsung Vista Australia is seeking an M&A Analyst – Development & Investment to support the growth of its renewable energy investment and development activities in Australia.


The role will primarily support and coordinate M&A and investment activities related to the acquisition of greenfield and development-stage renewable energy projects, including utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Solar PV, Wind and Hybrid projects.


The successful candidate will work across the full investment lifecycle, from project screening, financial analysis and valuation through due diligence, transaction execution, FID and Financial Close.


A key requirement is relevant experience in the Australian renewable energy sector, combined with strong financial, analytical and commercial capabilities.


About the role


M&A & Transaction Execution

  • Support identification, screening and assessment of renewable energy acquisition and investment opportunities.
  • Coordinate competitive and bilateral M&A processes involving project/SPV acquisitions, joint ventures and co-development arrangements.
  • Review information memoranda, data rooms, project documentation and transaction materials.
  • Support preparation of EOIs, NBOs, Binding Offers/BAFOs and investment proposals.
  • Assist with review and negotiation of transaction documents, including SPAs, SHAs, Development Services Agreements and related commercial agreements.
  • Coordinate internal teams, external advisers and transaction workstreams and maintain transaction schedules, action registers and conditions precedent.


Financial Analysis & Valuation

  • Develop, review and maintain financial models for renewable energy investments.
  • Undertake project valuations using DCF, IRR, NPV and other relevant investment metrics.
  • Analyse CAPEX, OPEX, development expenditure, financing requirements and revenue assumptions.
  • Perform sensitivity and scenario analysis around key investment variables.
  • Assess acquisition price, remaining development expenditure, construction costs and expected investment returns.
  • Evaluate contracted, merchant and hybrid revenue structures, particularly for BESS and renewable generation projects.
  • Prepare investment analysis and recommendations for Australian management and Samsung headquarters.


Due Diligence & Investment Risk

Support and coordinate multidisciplinary due diligence covering key areas including:

  • Development status, approvals and project maturity
  • Grid connection and AEMO processes
  • Land tenure and property rights
  • Technical design and constructability
  • EPC strategy, CAPEX and delivery schedule
  • Revenue, offtake and BESS optimisation
  • Legal, corporate, tax and accounting
  • Financing, bankability and insurance
  • Project risks and opportunities


The Analyst will coordinate internal specialists and external technical, legal, financial and tax advisers.

A critical responsibility is ensuring that material DD findings are translated into quantifiable impacts on valuation, CAPEX, schedule, transaction structure, investment returns and overall project risk.


Investment Governance & Development Support

  • Prepare investment papers, management presentations and Investment Committee materials.
  • Maintain risk and opportunity registers, DD trackers and key investment assumptions.
  • Support internal investment approval processes within Samsung Vista Australia and Samsung C&T.
  • Provide Australian renewable energy market and transaction analysis.
  • Support project pipeline evaluation, benchmarking and partner/JV assessments.
  • Coordinate with Samsung's EPC and Engineering teams to ensure investment and acquisition assumptions are aligned with technically and commercially executable project solutions.


About You


Samsung Vista is seeking a commercially minded and highly analytical investment professional who combines strong financial and transaction capability with a practical understanding of renewable energy development.

The ideal candidate will be more than a financial modeler. They should understand how development maturity, grid connection, approvals, land, technical design, EPC strategy and revenue assumptions affect valuation, transaction risk and the project's ability to achieve FID, Financial Close and ultimately COD.


  • Candidates should ideally have at least 5 years of relevant professional experience, with demonstrated exposure to renewable energy transactions, project investment, development or infrastructure M&A.
  • Australian renewable energy industry experience is strongly required and will be an important selection criterion.
  • Relevant experience may have been gained within renewable energy developers/IPPs, infrastructure or renewable investment funds, investment banking, project finance, energy utilities, infrastructure advisory firms or Big Four transaction/advisory teams.
  • Direct experience with utility-scale BESS, Solar PV, and Hybrid projects in Australia will be highly regarded.
  • A bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Commerce, Accounting, Engineering, Business, Infrastructure or a related discipline is preferred.


Key Skills & Competencies

  • Strong financial modelling, valuation and investment analysis skills.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint capabilities.
  • Understanding of renewable energy project economics and development processes.
  • Familiarity with the NEM, AEMO and Australian grid connection framework.
  • Understanding of planning/approval pathways, project finance, revenue structures and EPC contracting.
  • Ability to identify and quantify material commercial and investment risks.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to coordinate multidisciplinary DD processes involving technical, legal, commercial and financial advisers.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple workstreams under transaction deadlines.
