Salas O'Brien supports NYSERDA (New York State Energy Research and Development Agency) across many avenues in Technical Services, Engineering through Staff Augmentation, which are essentially contracts that help manage and support their projects.

Job Summary:

The Project Manager will provide technical and project management support to integrate climate resilience considerations into NYSERDA-supported energy efficiency/building electrification projects. Serve as main climate resiliency point of contact for NYSERDA's new Affordable Multifamily Program Upstate (AMP Up), designed to support a wide range of upstate affordable multifamily projects to improve their energy efficiency and move away from fossil fuels.

General Duties:

• The PM will be involved in project-specific climate resiliency support to NYSERDA's climate resiliency team, NYSERDA's AMP Up team, participating contractors, and building owners as applicable..

• Provide coordination with the NYSERDA PMs, participating in project scoping calls, answering project-specific resiliency questions as they arise, tracking key resiliency metrics across projects (including cost information), ensuring resiliency-related program resources are up to date, creating supportive documents such as FAQs to support resilience integration, elevating issues to the NYSERDA PM as necessary, and other day-to-day support tasks.

• Support review of submitted floodproofing designs between the contractor submitted resources and additional technical staff.

• Support refinement of the overall AMP Up resilience integration strategy. This is anticipated to involve identifying common challenges across projects, identifying potential solutions, aggregating key metrics across the project portfolio to understand trends, and other activities needed to inform program decision-making. Results from this effort will inform potential program modifications that may be needed for successful integration in the remainder of the program.

• Support NYSERDA's Climate Resiliency Project Manager with other tasks that support resilience integration into NYSERDA offerings, focusing on residential and commercial buildings. This can include but is not limited to:

  • Updating templates and guidance docs, directing program teams to resources, providing ad-hoc technical support, and other duties as required that contribute toward the key outcomes of the Strategy & Planning team.


Skills and Abilities:

• Skilled in project management for design and construction projects, including:

  • Experience creating/maintaining/tracking schedule and budget
  • Experience reviewing and providing feedback on key deliverables
  • Strong coordination skills dealing between multiple parties including contractors, building owners, and officials
  • Knowledge of or experience in design of residential and commercial buildings
  • General understanding of climate resilient design concepts (particularly for flood, extreme heat, and wind hazards), including identifying and applying climate hazard datasets to understand project hazard exposure, best practice risk mitigation measures, and reviewing designs and specifications submitted by contractors to assess sufficiency of resilient design measures
  • Specialty in at least one area of the following: Design of building mechanical, electrical, and/or structural systems with general understanding of others.
  • Experience incorporating climate resiliency considerations into building design, particularly for flood, extreme heat, and wind hazards.



Requirements:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s – Preferably in engineering, Climate Science or other related discipline.
  • 3-6 years of Project Management experience, preferably in environmental or energy industry.

Compensation:

This is a full-time position as a Salas O’Brien employee working remotely. Benefits include a health insurance plan, a 401K profit sharing plan, and PTO. The position offers competitive compensation with an anticipated annual salary range of $75-90K based on candidate experience.
