Position Overview

Reporting to the Head of Asia & Head of Asset Management with a dual reporting line to Head of Carbon Capital & Investments in the US, this role will lead the origination, evaluation, structuring, negotiation, and execution of carbon project investment opportunities across Asia. The successful candidate will combine strong investment and transaction experience with practical carbon-market fluency, commercial judgment, and the ability to work effectively across developers, corporates, financial institutions, and internal cross-functional teams.

Role location is flexible, with a strong preference for candidates based in Singapore

Key Responsibilities:

Origination & Investment

  • Originate and assess carbon project investment opportunities across key pathways, APAC geographies, and counterparties
  • Build and actively manage a pipeline of high-quality opportunities including offtakes, prepayments, strategic partnerships, and other capital solutions
  • Evaluate project quality, commercial attractiveness, counterparty strength, implementation feasibility, and portfolio fit
  • Develop investment cases, financial models, valuation frameworks, and transaction materials to support decision-making

Structuring, Negotiation, and Completion

  • Lead transaction processes from origination through diligence, structuring, internal approval, contract negotiation, documentation, and closing
  • Structure and negotiate commercial arrangements with developers and sellers, including term sheets, purchase agreements, and partnership frameworks
  • Work closely with internal teams to assess methodology fit, delivery timelines, issuance risk, and customer relevance
  • Support the development of scalable investment and financing strategies to secure high-integrity supply through the Rubicon platform

Stakeholder Management

  • Build and manage sustainable relationships with developers, project sponsors, investors, financial institutions, development finance actors, and other relevant market participants
  • Maintain an informed view of market developments including buyer preferences, pricing dynamics, integrity trends, registry developments, carbon insurance policies, bankability considerations and relevant policy trends.
  • Represent Rubicon credibly in the carbon market and broader climate finance ecosystem.

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Partner closely with Science, Asset Management, Sales, Trading, and Strategy teams to translate opportunities into executable transactions with credible future deliverability
  • Contribute to portfolio construction and supply strategy discussions across the business
  • Operate effectively in a lean, fast-moving environment with a strong sense of ownership and accountability

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, with relevant graduate (MBA, MPA, etc) or master's degree preferred, or equivalent experience.
  • 10–15+ years of relevant client-facing deal making experience with 5-7 years+ in carbon markets, climate finance, project investing, infrastructure, commodities, structured finance, or related fields
  • Deep expertise in carbon markets, including project pathways, quality guardrails, offtake structures, supply and demand dynamics, and key diligence considerations such as delivery and issuance risk
  • Working knowledge of relevant carbon market standards, registries, and evolving market frameworks, including international climate policy (UNFCCC, Paris Agreement, etc.)
  • Significant experience originating, structuring, negotiating, and executing complex multi-million dollar commercial transactions, with a focus on environmental commodity transactions with corporate buyers
  • Broad business development experience, including pipeline management and closing sales; experience assessing project, counterparty, and transaction risk and driving opportunities through to close
  • Track record of working and negotiating with senior international clients in the public and private sector
  • Experience with portfolio management of carbon assets
  • Familiarity with global financial markets, development finance institutions, banks, investors, and structured or blended capital solutions
  • Passion for the mission of Rubicon Carbon and the application of innovative financial structures to address global issues
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, presentation, and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong financial modelling, analytical, and numerical competency
  • Comfortable operating at both strategic and detailed levels within a small, entrepreneurial, and often virtual team environment
  • Multilingual skills — specifically in Bahasa, Mandarin, or Hindi — are a significant plus
