Development Officer- Multilateral/ Bilateral and Government Relationships
We are hiring an energetic, mission-focused development and fundraising professional adept at building the internal and external relationships and providing the operational capacity needed to secure government, bilateral and multilateral funding through institutional partnerships.
Individuals in the position must have high attention to detail, work as a leader or in a support role as needed to secure and steward major funding relationships, and be willing and able to perform both the creative thinking for donor strategies, and the due diligence to ensure institutional qualifications to be eligible for government funding, bi-lateral funding and meet requirements for multi-lateral funding windows.
The Development Officer will be responsible for the development and management of primarily a portfolio of current and prospective government, bi-lateral and multi-lateral funding opportunities. This includes working with programmatic staff to build the fundraising strategy and case for support and building and leveraging key relationships and contacts within and outside of the organization’s network. The Development Officer will be a key contributor to the Development Team and will be essential to the achievement of the organization’s fundraising goals.

- Advance individual and organizational relationships that result in grant or investment contributions for Rocky Mountain Institute to develop and scale our global programs.
- Represent Rocky Mountain Institute at international convenings to cultivate funding opportunities and strategic partnerships.
- Support the development team and program leadership to understand the qualifications required and work with core operating units to develop systems and controls to manage restricted funding according to donor requirements.
- Research funding opportunities, key milestones, and dates, and manage the inquiry process with partnership teams.
- Develop proposals with internal and external teams.
- Work with development, finance, and other core operating units to ensure policies and procedures are in place to qualify and manage bilateral and multilateral funding.
- Work with the development team to create compelling proposals, cultivate new prospects, and steward existing donors.
- Use Salesforce database to document moves management process and provide accurate relationship status and financial projections for portfolio.
- Work collaboratively with RMI program teams to gain a comprehensive understanding of RMI’s work and build strong working relationships with program leaders.
- Interpret proposal technical and operational requirements and engage key players to ensure compliance.
- Support the development team in preparing communications and materials, designing meeting content, and coordinating activities with program colleagues.
- Serve as an active member of the Development Team and perform other duties as required or assigned.
MINUMUM AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental field, public administration, international relations, or related field.
- A minimum of 5 years work experience in international aid, UN agency, multilateral funding or related entity required and experience with US government FOA, proposal development and reporting requirements preferred,
- Excellent writing and editing skills for the key stakeholders.
- Understanding of multilateral and bilateral monitoring and evaluation frameworks.
- For-profit and investment experience also desirable; considerable knowledge of fundraising techniques, and sources of funding for nonprofit agencies and organizations or an equivalent combination of experience in corporate sales
- Experience working successfully with top-level Executives in a fast-paced environment.
- International work experience required.
- Ability to travel up to 50% of the time, post-COVID restrictions.
This position will remain remote through the COVID-19 pandemic. Once the COVID-19 situation improves, it is expected that these roles be located at one of our offices in New York City, Oakland, CA, Washington D.C., Basalt, CO, or Boulder, CO. This will be discussed further throughout the interview process.

RMI compensates based on the level and requirements of the role. Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. Typically, new Development Officers based in the U.S. join at the minimum to mid-salary range of $79,000-$93,000. You would also have an additional 10% bonus target!
