Sr. Engineering Technician III

The Sr. Engineering Technician III role at Rivian involves diagnosing and repairing electrical, mechanical, and software systems in prototype vehicles, requiring a comprehensive understanding of vehicle systems and repair procedures. The technician will be responsible for maintaining detailed records, performing routine maintenance on test equipment, and installing instrumentation in accordance with engineering specifications. Additionally, the role requires collaboration with engineers and technicians to provide high-level technical support, while also managing the transportation and test driving of prototype vehicles, often involving travel. A background in automotive electrical systems, hybrid/electric vehicles, and high-voltage knowledge is essential, alongside experience in minor fabrication and the ability to drive safely and effectively.
Responsibilities:Perform diagnosis and repair of prototype vehicle’s
electrical/mechanical/software systems
Complete bumper to bumper knowledge of vehicle systems and proper repair
procedures
Knowledge base of tool and equipment usage as it pertains to vehicle repairs
Fabricate and/or modify existing prototype components/fixtures
Maintain detailed records of all work performed
Maintain test equipment in operational condition by performing routine
maintenance and making minor repairs/adjustments as needed
Install instrumentation, test equipment, and other components on prototype
vehicles in accordance with engineering specifications, standards, and/or test
procedures
Communicate directly with engineers and other technicians to ensure a high level
of technical support
Load and transport prototype vehicles to specified test locations as needed.
(Class A CDL a plus)
Test drive vehicles on closed tracks
Travel 50%
industry. Electric/hybrid vehicle experience preferred
Advanced driver training. (preferred)
Strong automotive electrical understanding
High Voltage electrical knowledge and training
CAN/LIN network understanding
Minor fabrication experience
Strong technical and mechanical ability
Minimum age of 21
No driving related suspensions or revocation of Driver License (within a 3-5 year
period)
No drug or alcohol related driving incidents in the last 3 years
No more than 1 serious moving violation in the last 3 years
Must have a valid driver's license in the state of residence that you will be
driving/operating a vehicle
Will be subject to continuous Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) monitoring
