Role Summary:
The Senior Manager, EHS will be tied to the Rivian manufacturing business unit reporting to the Vice President of Manufacturing. This is a key member of the Manufacturing leadership team working cross-functionally with numerous internal departments including Security, Risk/Insurance, Manufacturing Leadership, Maintenance, Engineering, Procurement, and Legal among other functions while driving continuous improvement. This role will be responsible for managing, developing, leading, and sustaining safety, health, and environmental initiatives to support all areas of manufacturing at the Normal Illinois factory. The ideal candidate is self-motivated and can understand complex regulations and communicate them effectively to a variety of groups with diverse interests and backgrounds. The person in this position should be able to work in a fast-paced, multi-cultural, team-oriented environment with our Manufacturing Plant in Normal, IL.
Responsibilities:
  • Actively drive the value of EHS in the workplace at all levels within the organization, utilizing a management system mindset.
  • Integrate safety management into the Rivian Production System.
  • Manage the process to ensure that all applicable safety, occupational health, and environmental compliance programs are in place and functioning properly.
  • Interface with regulatory compliance organizations such as OSHA, IEPA, and Bloomington-Normal Water Reclamation District.
  • Set EHS strategy, goals, and objectives for the Rivian manufacturing. Establish KPIs and drive manufacturing operations performance.
  • Develop, plan, and deliver EHS training applicable to each job within the Manufacturing business unit.
  • Assure compliance with all applicable OSHA, EPA, IEPA, federal, state, local and health regulation requirements.
  • Coach operations leadership to successfully own and complete safety objectives to include incident investigations, training, GEMBA walks, and inspections.
  • Ensure that necessary inspections of properties, people, and operations are carried out to evaluate EHS issues and opportunities.
  • Partner with the Enterprise EHS team to standardize programs, processes, and training while independently managing local manufacturing EHS initiatives.
  • Must influence others to achieve goals without direct oversight or authority.
  • Willingness to work extended or non-standard shifts, including weekends.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization with a minimum of 7 years EHS experience with 5+ years in a Management role.
  • Master’s degree in EHS or Engineering is preferred
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or similar relevant industry professional certification is preferred
  • Automotive manufacturing or heavy manufacturing experience is required.
  • Extensive and working knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations (primary), with a working knowledge of DOT, substance abuse, and workers’ compensation programs.
  • Strong leadership, emotional intelligence, and management skills required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient skills in microsoft and google software suites, with experience managing EHS enterprise software systems.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk, climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • In the performance of the duties of this job, the employee is required to travel, drive a motor vehicle. Travel could be up to 10% of the time
  • The employee must frequently lift and move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus
Pay Disclosure:
Salary Range/Hourly Rate for Illinois Based Applicants: $145,400-$181,700 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).
